I am a little plateaued right now and going for another fill tomorrow (3rd)

How many fills did it take for you to lose weight well.??

I lost quite a bit with each fill actually. I've only had 5 fills in almost 2 years and have not had a fill since late last November. I had to have 2 defills since February when my band started to tighten for no reason so now I'm back down to below the level I had after my 2nd fill. I started to gain weight since my last defill so I will get another fill soon somewhere between this one and the last one and hopefully start losing again.

Strange, so your band tightened up all on its own???

Will we need to be filled and unfilled our whole lives???

I was at a great level of restriction from November until February then it got uncomfortably tight so I just had .6cc taken out of 8.9cc then I noticed all summer, it was getting tighter and tighter on its own until a month or so ago, it took me 4 hours to drink one black coffee so we took 2cc out. It is still tightening and loosening on and off so I'm going to get a fluoro to see if everything is okay in there or if my band is just being the fickle bitch it likes to be.

As far as fills/defills our whole lives, lots have never touched their fill level since they have been at goal unless they needed to be defilled for major surgery.

Hi,

New to this forum. Have just set a date for May 28th. TLBC . Do any of you bandsters have your fills done by your family DR. I live 8 hours from TO and I really don't want to be running back and forth every month.

Chubba, if you are about 8 hours north of the city then you must be up near Timmins. Depending on which clinic you get banded at, they do have fill docs/nurses in the north that they trained but they strictly fill their own patients. I get my local doc to do mine but my clinic has one trained in Timmins, North Bay and Sudbury so I know if I can't see mine quick enough, I can make a quck 2 hour trip instead of 6 and get one.

Hi Marilyn; Welcome to bandland. My family doctor didn't want to be responsible for fills, not interested at all. I live 2 1/2 hours from clinic so I understand your not wanting to drive back and forth.

But you do have the nice weather on your side! The thing about going to the clinic all the time for fills is this. Sometimes your port flips and only a nurse who deals with this full time would be able to find it and fill it. I also had a situation where my tubing got punctured. Not once but twice!!! and I had ALL my fills done at TLBC!! So I can't imagine if a G.P. was going in blind to do the fills... also once Dr. Yau agreed that I had a leek and was willing to fix it, the first thing they asked was "did you have ALL your fills done at the clinic"??? hummm, what would have happened if I had had someone else do those fills and then there was a problem? Would TLBC still do the re-surgery for free??? Surgury #1 was July07, re-surgery was done Mar 29th.08

I don't know. Just my 2 cents, but consider your options carefully.

The fill person in Timmins is strictly for patients of the SWLC since they trained them to do fills for their patients and they are only liable for anything that happens to a SWLC patient's band.

If you find a local doctor that will do your fills with the TLBC cd or dvd, just make sure you have something in writing from TLBC that any fills done by that person will be covered by the TLBC warranty. I have one so that if my doc punctures anything on mine, it's completely covered by the SWLC.

I was told that fills done anywhere other than clinic are extra cost. What is the cost for fills..???

Each doc or nurse trained by my clinic does charge their own fee for the fill or defill. They can range from $50 to $150. It's still a lot cheaper than going back to Toronto each time. As long as the clinic has trained them, then they cover any complications from fills. I can't speak for TLBC but I know that is how SWLC works with the medical staff they have trained throughout the country. Doesn't matter where you get your fills done as long as it is someone they trained, you are covered for any repairs they might have to do because of a fill person. If you go to someone not trained by them, then you might in fact void your warranty with them unless you get something else in writing stating that the person doing your fills is still covered under your warranty.

I'm not banded yet and was wondering if Icould come and meet people who've been there, done that. If it is okay North Bay, Sudbury, Hunstville, Bracebrige, I live in Haliburton so any where around would be great!:tt2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
