Week 51

Wow can't believe that one more week and I have had my band for a year. What an amazing journey it has been. Quite an adventure into the journey of food and just how the body copes when it has next to nothing! I am very very happy as I have obviously achieved my target and more! I need to book an appointment for September to go for my annual check up but shall do that at the start of September.

So this week I have lost 1bl and 3 inches. This is fine as I am trying to eat more and trying to get more fibre into my diet. I am also having a glass of prune juice morning and night to avoid Constipation as it was very unpleasant at the start of the week.

It doesn't help when your fridge decides to go on the blink. It's finally been written off so that we can go to the shop and get another one. What a nightmare! But we are nearly there! Just need to watch that certain foods are ok and not make anyone ill in the process!

So have an appointment on Tuesday with GP and hoping to wangle referral for tummy, thighs and boobs (not too much then!) but they are driving me crazy! Which is the worst bit the boobs as I am in constant agony in my shoulder and back! Not sure why but would like to find out if it is the slack skin and loss of fat!

Anyway stats for this week:

Weight loss = 1 lb

Inch loss = 3 inches

Total weigh loss = 106.5

Total inch loss = 89.5

BMI: 24.5

Yippee

Have a great week everyone and stay very positive.

Take care

Claire

Evening Troops

Having a bit of a disaster this week, last wednesday I was quite sick - not sure if I had a bit of a bug but ever since my stomach is really sore, and my band feels really really tight. I was terrified it had slipped but pretty sure its the wretching that has hurt my stomach. Friday I couldn't really manage anything even liquids, but yesterday I managed some Water but only a bit. Today I have managed a few glasses of water and 2 ice lollies - no food has passed my lips since last Weds.

Has anyone had this before? I am pretty sure it is on the mend but it was quite scary for a while. Hubby wanted me to go to A & E and get it emptied as he was panicking but I think I am through the worst of it.

I last had a fill at end of May and had no problems with it in all that time but all of a sudden its very very tight.

On the plus side I expect the weight to start falling off now

Hope everyone is well

Hey everyone hope you're all doing good and enjoying this lovely weather :) I have just found out I am pregnant and wondering what to do with regards to the band. Had a wee look at the pregnancy section but its all different answers, people having small defill, no defill or complete defill. I emailed Freddy to ask for his advice but not heard back yet so wondering if anyone had any advice for me. I am 6 weeks just now and thankfully I feel a million dollars....for now anyway lol but obviously I dont want the baby to lack any goodness. I have the doctors on Thursday which I will mention it but I have that feeling that he wont have a clue :P

PS Scooby Doo my mums friend had the same experience, she actually got food poison and was ill for weeks and she said also that she was worried the band had slipped cos being sick all the time could cause it too, however she was fine after a few weeks so put it down to her stomach being sensitive. Hope you are feeling much better soon xx

Congratluations on your imminent arrival

I think you can maintain your band levels as there is no risk to you or baby however if you start to experience problems then a slight defill is recommended.

It might help minimise the risk of morning sickness etc as you will still be limiting your food intakes. I am sure Chris will advise you for the best,

I have finally stopped being sick and have managed some fluids, and a few ice lollies so fingers crossed it is nearing an end now. It was awful and I got a real fright, just goes to show you can never take anything for granted

Good luck with your pregnancy

Congratulations what lovely news! Are you pleased? There have been a few on here who have had babies and will have better experience than most. I was told that all the fill had to be removed but see what Freddie says. Only reason why I asked is because I do a lot of work with pregnant mums and wasnted to know and also if undertaking pregnancy yoga was ok. It was which is good news.

So pleased for you. Enjoy your pregnancy.

Take care

Thank you, very pleased indeed :D I am just feeling slightly scared now about having to get a complete defill incase I go back to my old ways. Theres so many different opinions on this board I just dont know what to do, im assuming every surgeons advice will be different but if he says its for the best then what will be will be. Might enjoy some sandwiches for 8 months hehe :) Thanks for your help ladies x

Congrats on your fab news, both my daughter and freckles daughter have had band babies. In my daughters case she had a partial defill she kept 3ml in for the first 5 months then topped up again to 4.5 for the next 3 half months, then went back to 3ml for the last few weeks and whilst she was breast feeding, she was advised to reduce the fill incase of an emergency c section, or any other complications.

After 6 months breast feeding she was back to her pre pregnancy weight, and then had a restrictive band fill to shift a bit more. Mother and baby did brill, however I did pay for her to have an extra scan in the early weeks just to be certain the baby was growing at the correct rate, all was normal. Hope this helps (PS my daughter had her band with BUPA and they monitered her monthly free of charge).

Hi Guys,

My biggest fear about booking directly with Dr CDB is if something goes wrong with the band or the port 4 or 5 months down the line.

Does anyone know if CDB offers any insurance packages that would cover this? Or does he offer any surgical guaruntees for a certain period?

I can only afford to do this the once. :D

Thanks

My understanding of this and there have been clients on here who have had their band replaced, port changed due to leaks etc and Dr Chis has looked after them. Not sure if there was a charge or not but I am sure others will be able to say what they have had to pay for or not pay for etc.

When we had our meeting the night before the procedure, I asked about the band and guarantees etc and I was advised by Dr Chris and Frederik that all my fills were done with them to ensure that only they were the ones to access to port in case there was a problem and then they would be able to sort it.

HTH

We are all only able to do this once and it's not a whim but somethng you think about for months before you finally fo ahead and do it.

I am one week off my first year and am so pleased as I am at target weight and feel a million dollars!

Take care

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
