hey gillian and big sis,

soz just realised ive got you both mixed up,meant to say about the shouting, just give them that look ,you know the one your mother used to do to you,and you swore that you would never useyeh thats right the one that shows you are having homicidal thoughts, and watch the room clear,or get one of those big fog horn thingys( see and i thought i was prepared) that should have them running, just dont let them get a hold of it,cos running for you is not good at the early stages, wonder how this weeks bandsters are getting on ,cant wait to read their replies,

Think I have got big joggers sorted - have got a very attractive pair about 12 years old that I use to slob around the house in and will take those cos don't want to invest in anything I don't need to. Obviously I will be wearing these with sexy crop top (size 20) - just to let the air get to my wounds of course - but will cover up when we leave cos don't want to be driving all the male population crazy with desire! I can't say I'm particularly looking forward to the immediate post op (and lack of sympathy from partner) but of course I'm looking forward to the results and a transformation hopefully by summer next year. Be seeing you soon now, G x

were they my joggers once?!

Hello all,

This is my first post, i am considering dr chris though i am very scared as I will be traveling alone, i am from Egypt, and i have been saving up for 2 years now for this, i am on a very tight budget so taking someone with me is not an option and being alone scares me the most!, I don’t think I will be able to travel after only 2 days of the operation as it will be a looooong flight , I really don’t know what to do, so any advice ? :tongue_smilie:

Welcome mizofatso. I haven't been banded yet so don't really know how long it would take to recover enough before going on a long flight home (it's only just over a hour for me), but I'm sure Dr Chris would be able to answer your questions and give his honest opinion on flying home etc. There may also be others going the same time as you, so when you have a date for your op, just ask on this forum if anyone else is being banded around the same time. Good luck and let us know what you decide. T x

Hi Fox - I'm really pleased you are feeling a lot better now - don't over do it though!! Have you tried a drink yet? I know I will realy miss my vodka and coke after I have my band. I don't like any other alcoholic drinks but I'm sure I will try my best to find an alternative if I have to :-) T x

Here, here - good luck, we will be thinking of you:thumbup:.

Not long for us now Gillian (and you too Bigsister and Wishful) - I missed my last works Christmas party as a fat lass on Friday as I have the flu. In a way I didn't mind missing it as I always hate the fashion show of the stick insects telling me it doesn't matter about my size as I always look lovely and smart (right!:tongue_smilie:) I will show them next year though:tt2:

I hope all the members of the forum have a wonderful Christmas and a happy (thinner) New Year:present:

Yeah, but they look much better on me. Big curry night tomorrow, we should start counting down how many curry nights to banding - 4 to go I think. We should be doing low fat diet but maybe if we are good rest of the week we can have a bit of a splurge on a Saturday night if we don't go too mad and are careful what we pick? Hoping that I recover as well as Fox as I have been invited to a 50th birthday party of an old friend and it will be 8 days after banding and really wanting to go to that if I can.

Hey TC - for our office xmas party next year, if I am down to target, then I will be wearing a bikini! Don't care if its 0 degrees with ice on the ground, my smug self satisfaction will keep me warm!

By the way Fox, gillian doesn't need the 'mum' look - she used to (and still does) scare our Mum with her own version! And she is usually a big fog horn herself, so her husband/boys are well trained and will soon be jumping to attention to a temporary replacement one. G x (the quieter sister!)

Hi everyone, Just to let you all know. I was banded on Friday, it's Sunday now and everything went really well. I don't remember much about the day of the op (apart from trying to rip the oxygen mask off in ICU!!!!!) But By 5 the following morning I was awake and doing a bit of study! Hospital was beautifully clean and all where really helpful. Apparently Fredrik keep coming to give my husband updates while I was under. If anyone has any questions then please feel free, I got so much good advice off this site, it'd be nice to give something back. Finally I just thought I'd add that before they will take your IV out they make you try and eat some Soup and strange biscuits! I really didn't expect that. Oh and the Barium you drink for the x ray is a laxative!!!!!!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
