You don't need a great deal of stuff at all. They supply the gown you wear for the duration in hospital. They give you all the meds whcih includes:

Painkillers, anti-vomiting, anti-bacterial Fluid to clean after dressings come off, 5 x syringe of anti-coagulant? (stops clots) .

The wounds themselves are covered with dressings then like a cellophane cover that sticks to your skin. This is not to be removed for 10 days, you can shower the day after but no baths.

I took a laptop for dvd's and a book, the main stay for me was boredome in the hospital with no one to chat to. You will be sleepy most of the operation day anyway and wont want to do much at all. I was up and about and walking the next morning as soon as they removed the drain from my stomach. The hotel does not have british TV so be prepared to amuse yourself there, i used my laptop to watch movies online using hotel broadband which was quick but pricey for 3 days.

I am post op 3 weeks friday and apart from pain at my port when i bend down to pick stuff up or tie shoes i feel quite well. I have had no problems at all with vomiting or feeling sick. I was not prepared for the pain afterwards but its managable. The gas trapped pain took 6 days for me to get rid of. I have an appetite now and looking forward to my first fill next week. I have been on will power to not eat to much as without restriction i know i can eat probably anything but once filled it will be a different story so i will just stick to my small meals.

I have lost over 4kg's in 2 1/2 weeks and people have started to notice already if that does not help will power i dont know what does

wow thats fantastic, and thanks so much for the info,hw did you get rid of the trapped wind? :wink2:,my husband is coming with me so i shouldnt be bored,he may be, but i hope to sleep the pain away !!!!!!!,now what about the xmas festivities,i wll be two weeks post op, will i still be on liquids and will that be long vodka for starters, dry white wine for main course and champagne for dessert, that is minus the strawberry cos thats a solid,so cant have that!!!!!!!!!!:smile2:

You may be ok due to the fact you wont have had a fill, its up to how you are i guess. I went o work function last night and had 4 single vodkas with fresh orange over the whole evening and was fine. After my fill next thursday may be a total different ball game. I got rid of wind by walking and lying flat on my stomach which is quite painful but effective. It seemed to squah it and move it, maybe it was in my head :smile2:

Now just one more question how do i get that tracker weight loss thingy you all have on your page,im having a party on friday for A FEW close friends, the whole 5 i have told and its going to be fancy dress, the most ridiculous outfit you can find, im stuck between britney spears and a giant corn on the cob, but i say hey hell ,why not go out with a bang!!!!!!! there will be food ,booze and good company, what else do you need for a great party,:smile2:,so as you can probably tell the pre op diet is not going very good at all, but does everyone not pig out before the op or is it just me:embaressed_smile:

I did a bit but be careful if your liver is to large they will sew you back up and postpone it. The more fat you eat the more your liver swells, hence the low fat diet for 2 weeks to ensure its small. I had rump steak and chips the night before :wink2:

can i just say that the reason i was in so much pain was because i couldn't have pain relief at all as i had a bad reaction to anaesthetic and kept vomiting i have been back at work 2 days now and it's bearable !!!.I'm still suffering with the gas which has eased off 100% since i had it but still feeling it . NO PAIN NO GAIN that's what i kept telling myself!!. i am looking forward to buying new clothes!!. can anyone tell me how to get the tracker up please? Also just a little reminder as noone told any of the people being banded in my hotel you need to take your passport with you to the hospital as they won't allow you to be operated on without it

No wonder you had such bad pain if you couldn't have any pain relief! - you poor thing. I'm pleased you are on the mend now though and we are all looking forward to your updates on how things progress. Good luck and thank you for letting us know about the passport thing - this is the first I have heard about that one! T x

hi TC27,

Im being banded on the 9th december im also in the hospital for one night and then the hotel for one night, i booked the package with frderik and was advised thats what most people do !!,so now im worried too, but bytheseaside was banded on the 28/11 and is now feeling loads better ,so maybe lots of pain day one two and three maybe but surely the hospital will give you pain relief, or do we take that ourselfs, and what else might we need ,AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH, !!!!!!!!!!!!:cursing::scared2:

Hi Fox - After reading further reports from alfie858 and bytheseaside, it seems the pain hopefully wont be too bad. I know there will be pain after the op but I was just a little concerned about flying so soon after. I will have my husband with me (being banded on 27th January), so I wont have any bags to carry etc. Like you I feel I have a million questons about the whole procedure, but I have found most of the answers on this forum. Not long to go for you now. We will be thinking of you - don't forget to let us know how you get on. T x:smile2:

I was only one night in the hotel and the pain is there the next day but bearable. I did take some of the 1g Paracetamol they gave me the day i travelled but all in all it was fine. Don't worry about it.

Thanks for that - I feel much better about the flight home etc now. T x

Hi Gillian - how's your Christmas blow out going? - Mine is going way too well, I'm sure I'm getting bigger by the day!! I keep thinking about all the food and drink I love and wont be able to eat after being banded and can't stop eating and drinking everything in sight :-(

Only 55 days to go and 41 days of binging (is it only 44 days for you and your sister?) - I will have to try very hard on my pre-op diet as my liver must be huge and I don't want the risk of them not going ahead with my band. Must go the vodka bottle is calling me. T x

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
