Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris

Recommended Posts

For the hospital.. your wash bag, hand towel and slippers, and then for the hotel i took slim fast (didnt drink it tho)a couple of cup a Soup with no bits, rennie and nurofen melts, i only managed a 1/4 of the cup a soup as that filled me, if your going on your own take slip on shoes/trainers as you wont be able to bend over to fasten, and loose fitting clothes. I felt hot and a bit dizzy at the airport and asked for a wheel chair.. i explained that i had surgery and they got the porter who took me and my partner straight threw and we didnt have too queue at all, so dont be afraid too ask for help if you need it, i think i would of passed out if i had too queue, not because of pain so dont worry, its because im not brilliant after anaesthetic x

Thats a brilliant post wishful, very helpful and informative. Questions I was going to ask too. Thanks.

Is anyone on their low fat pre op diet yet , that's going out in a few weeks? I am looking to start mine next week, but am trying to cut down now to get myself ready for it!

Hi Penny, I made a start on my low fat diet last week (easing myself into it!), my 2 weeks start after this weekend. Finding Breakfast and lunch easy, but dinner harder as I prefer Atkins (low carb) to low fat diet. :blushing: Will be making a real effort though if it makes the op safer.

Is anyone else going out on the 22nd June for an op on the 23rd?

Take extra t bags and large mug with you to belgium they only have tiny plastic cups, windeze gels sweets are good and I used these post op. If you do use the hospital dispersable tabs they give you to come home disolve them in quite hot Water and allow to cool, they are much better than if you try to take them fizzy with cold water. I also took sachets of drinking choc (options ). I would also buy at least 2X 1 ltr bottles of still water after you have passed through customs this side and take these onto the ward with you.

You may need extra bed pillows after the op the room maid will get them for you but it may be better to get them before your op just in case.

Not feeling too bad cos it doesn't feel real yet. I know I'll be terrified when the time gets closer.

Been reading through the thread for advice today, have to remind myself to be realistic about this. Sometimes I think the op will be the hard bit and the weight will just melt away afterwards - ffs! :blushing:

I'm trying to expect the worst (usually works for me) and be prepared for a long hard slog afterwards. I'm sure it will be a battle convincing my head about the right amount to eat and dealing with 'head hunger'.

When i went for my pre op evaluation the night before surgery dr chris gave this whole speach about the different bands he might use on the day depending on what he thought would be best. However i dont think that anyone on here has a different band to the ones mentioned by gillian. From this thread its obvious that the aftercare offered is not the best but i do agree that the care given in belgium is fantastic. I think the main problem is that they need to employ someone else as frederick cant handle the amount of aftercare patients they have, if they had another member of staff maybe he would be able to spend more than 5 mins with each person which is reasonable if you are giving them £90! The needles and specialist Water only cost me about £200 and i have 100 enough to last the rest of my life!!

Hi Carriejess, you mention needles and specialist water. Does this mean you can do your own fills?

Hi pixie your right it is a bit of a slog, i think we all expect the weight to fall off us after our band.. you still have to work at it and watch what you eat but once you get your head around it it gets easier x

i also found comfort from drinking nesquick strawberry made with milk i got at shop there if you like milkshake then take some, oh and eat the biscuits they leave you in room with a cup of tea, they are magic i ended up buying some in shops to bring home.

Gx

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
