Good luck suefee. Westie will that be 4 weeks since you had your op when you get your first fill on the 18th? Tee bird I can imagine its hard after having the band fitted and having no restriction, How long do you reckon the restriction wears off after operation. I know everyone is different but just a rough guide ie. do you think you could eat everything that you could before?

Hey homecare, yeah, my swelling went enough after about 10 days that i started feeling hungry so i went onto mushies and solid foods too early. My weight stopped moving so i went back onto liquids, yoghurt, slimfast cadbury light mousses, jelly and Soup 2 days ago so the weights moving again. and another 2 pounds off! But when i'm not on liquids I can pretty much eat anything except fresh bread, toast is fine etc etc, chips are way to easy to eat and are the devils food!...... x

Hi mandy im having a fill next week in manchester at 12 so shud see you there, i cant eat bread at all as it really hurts and just wont go down so i just dont even try it any more.. fingers crossed once you have your fill your weight will start to move again x

Hey wishfull and Mandyfielding, i too am getting filled on the 11th at 12.15 (i think!) so it would be gr8 to meet you both then!

Mandy, don't worry about the liquids thing, i spoke to coleen at WLS the other day and she said that it's best for your inflammation if you stay on liquids and mushies before your 1st fill anyway, your doing fine x

Hey tee-bird it will be great for us all too meet up x

Yeah it will, it'll be my first fill, then two weeks after, i start my package with WLS so i should have had my first 3 fills by 7 July. I just know that if i keep my fills regular and frequent, i should start losing weight quickly enough and keep motivated! Does anyone recommend WLS? I've gone with the 6 month package in Leeds and Harley St and Coleen says i can be filled every 2 weeks if i need it? x

hi there

I would recomend you go with the ecfs package which is 4070 euro ( i think) this includes collection from airport, hotel and taxis to and from hospital. I think the bookings are bout 4 weeks in advance but you would be better to contct frederc who is Dr chris right hand man and does all the organising. On the travel front it is dependend where you are, if in london i think the train is pretty good otherwise i would fly to belgium international. If you sy got there on thurs, your op would be fri and then trvel homw sunday.

keep the questions coming you arenot alone on this site nd we are pretty confident we cn answer just about everything.

Yes I can defo recommend WLS, they are great. I did the same thing as you, went to Manchester for my 1st fill (as I couldn't wait!!) and then to WLS. I've had just 3 fills and have very good restriction. I agree with Boobaldy, you will get to ur sweet spot within the 6 months as long as u get regular fills! x

Hi michelle, welcome to the forum.. try and get chance to read back the pages which will be a massive help, i booked everything separate but the package does work out a little cheaper and of course you dont have the hassle of booking the hotel, flights or taxis as it is all taken care of, its the best thing i have ever done for myself and dont regret having my band, any questions just ask away someone on here will be able to help x

I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
