Ooooo not much longer for you either. Im not doing to bad on the pre-op diet, just doing slimfast shakes morning and lunch and a big healthy meal in the evening, but I have slipped a few times with the odd bag of crisps, but have managed to stay away from the chocs and sweets lol:cursing:

Is your friend being banded as well or just going for support? Im going on my own and feeling a bit lonely already lol:unsure: but im sure I wll ok, im just going to take a few books to read for the day after and hopefully go sight seeing Friday if I feel well enough. So here's good luck to both of us. I will let you know how I get on:scared2:

Hi,

I'm back from Brussels, everything you have been posting here is true. Dr Chris is very nice and all the staff at the clinic is the best I have ever met, we couldn't ask sweeter nurses.

I have some doubts, maybe some of you with more experience can help me out:

- for how long did you use the socks?

- did anyone have problems with the stitches?

- how much do you really eat during your liquid period? ( I read all the information we get but I'm a bit confused....do we still have 3 meals or are we supposed to just keep sipping liquids all day? Can we have Jello and pureed fruit and Soup? )

thank you all so much and best of luck for everyone.

Ele

I am not worried about this at all. The only reason I decided to have surgery in Belgium and not here was because I do not feel like waiting for 2 years using the public health system.

I was informed about all the risks, in a private meeting with Dr Chris, I did not pay a cent above the surgery cost.

During the time I was in Belgium Dr Chris was very careful checking on how I was feeling, he called me 2 days after surgery to be sure everything was fine and kindly offered to visit me at my hotel before me flying home.

It amazes me that, with all the information we get, people can get to the point when they cant swallow water!

We are told 100 times to drink and contact a doctor imedialty if we cant swallow anymore, and this woman does nothing till she cant swallow her own saliva?

We are adults here, this is an alarmist and unfair article.

Lol yes im getting very nervous and my buttock cheeks are firmly pressed together, but not because of last nights programme, I have been nervous since I made the first contact lol:ohmy:. To be honest it could of been any Dr. patient, slipage happens, its one of the downsides of the procedure, but it doesnt mean that the Dr. was at fault, slipage can happen because of many different reasons, she may of had a blockage, lifted something to heavy, been vomiting. I think her point was that the Dr. was not available to see her when she got into trouble and she had left it until she couldnt swallow her own spit and she must of been really scared. We all run the same risk having it done in Brussels, but if we follow the rules, look out for the symtoms we should be ok. I understand that Dr Chris and Fred are both available on the end of a telephone and email should something be worrying us, and of course there is always our own GP's.

hi there,

Back at work.. still with ear ache.. but felt guilty being home!

had several phone calls the night lapband probs hit the news.. didnt sleep very well that night either..but, Ive decided, that there is risk with any operation.. the same can happen in the uk.. I take some comfort in the knowledge that in case of emergency treatment the NHS will step in.. they won't replace the band..which is fair enough..

STill havent heard from Frederik despite haivng emailed.. as it stands, I will be flying out on monday... with fingers crossed!! not a comforting feeling.. and to top it all, Ive lost my purse with my bank cards inside!!..

vanessa

For me personally I am no more nervous having seen the news last night because I cant find anything anywhere that says Dr.Chris has been anything but professional, I have seen or heard no complaints about him or his team.

Aawwww poor you Vanessa, sounds like you are going throu a bit of a tough time. Im sure they wont leave you at the airport chewing on your knuckles lol, I will be arriving on Tuesday so you will be done as im arriving lol. Well good luck to us both eh.

Yes it did make me sit and think for a while, but any operation puts you at risk, and I am going for it because the only other alternative is to wait on for a couple of years putting on weight just so that I can become more obese, give the NHS maybe more problems to sort out if i develope diabetes or am unable to walk due to joint problems. I think having this op has more pro's than con's and im looking forward to getting it over and done with.

Steve thanks for sending us that. You have done so well, congrates on the incredible weight loss. You must be feeling so much better having shifted all that weight and you look great. I noticed you had it done in the UK, would you of ever considered having it done elsewhere? :)

Thank you for your kind words. I had it done on the NHS with a six month waiting list. That waiting list is now three months.

I wouldn't have considered having it done anywhere else, mainly because I didn't have to. If circumstances were different and I went private, then I would have stayed in the UK. I do speak French and German, so going to Europe wouldn't have been a problem, just don't see the need for it.

Wow you are one of the lucky ones then to get it done on the NHS because here in London its a lot longer than a 3 months waiting list, and I wouldnt of been over weight enough even though im obese lol.

I did look into having it done private here but it was very expensive, and I know that there is no price on life, but needs must. In Brussels they speak English so no barrier there, and its only a couple of hours away. The Dr. has a very good rep so not at all worried about it :)

Chrissy4,

That's the postcode lottery for you. Our PCT has taken obesity seriously whilst others don't. It's a decision for them to make whether or not to fund obesity surgery. I find it difficult that the NHS in London, a world city, can't find the will to fund this highly preventitive and cost effective surgery. If Derby has the money to do it, so does London.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
