Hi all,

I am heading off on the 2nd of Nov to be banded along with Rosie Cheeks. I just wanted to say that I have found this forum really useful and to say thank you for all the info as it has helped to make this journey a bit less scary.

Hi,

I know this is O/T, but I wondr if you could all vote for my daughter Summer. I have entered her in the Facebook competition to become a model for Next. You dont need a facebook account, it is one vote per email address.

Can you pass it on to your friends too, thank you xxx

Thanx Slinx, wish I didnt have all this loose skin though, spose its my age and lack of exercise this has gotta change.

Good luck to the Flower girls lol(Daisy and Rosie), glad you have each other.

Slinx we fly from manchester on Thursday about 4pm, even I am getting excited and am packing lol.

Trying to sort out in my mind how many hours of dvd's I will need.

My daughter cant wait, she's looking forward to changing her life. Since she was 13 she has watched what she has eaten, and managed to stay about the same until she had Lipo on her tum and then the fat moved to her arms and upper torso, same happened to a friend of mine.

She's sick of weight watching and does need the help of the band. She wants to lose about 4 stone I think.

hi everyone, well was banded on Wednesday and I might say its pretty bloody painful!!! Husband stayed with me until about 10am, he got a taxi back to hotel (cost him 15euro so he walked every other visit - its only 30 min walk but there are loads of road works so taxi takes diversion and this puts cost up!!). I was taken down early as someone didnt turn up.. They all speak good english and must say hospital is spotless... after waking up in recovery I was really sick from GA and morphine.. went back to my bed and just drifted in and out of conscience for rest of day.. hub came back at 5ish (visiting hrs 12.30 - 8.30pm).. the only thing is I didnt expect the pain.. maybe as I have never had an operation before and they are not good at giving you pain relief.. you must go on at them for that.. didnt have a good night but like I said it was lack of pain relief but in the end they gave me more morphine around 3am and I slept.. Dr Chris came and seen me and said how well all had gone (he did visit me earlier also) .. they take alot of blood through the day so be prepared.... I rested the rest of the morning, nurses took my drip out and the tube from my stomach and gave me some Water and soup.. taxi was booked by Frederik at 1.30pm (this is all done by him).. I did tell my husband not to come but I am glad he did as I couldnt even carry my own bag.. (by the way didnt need my dressing gown as ward is roasting). Feeling in my chest was pretty bad but its bearable.. flight home was 7am and yeah felt like crap the whole journey but hey I knew I had to do it.. I am so glad I took my husband (and baby!) I think you really need support. The whole experience happened so quick and when I first woke up I felt like what the hell have I done but now the pain is gradually getting better I am starting to think a lot more positive.. The hotel is really basic but clean. When you come out of the hotel turn left and walk straight.. under the train bridge and accross busy road (keep straight) after about 15 mins at most you come to some shops H&M, C&A and Lidl. Walking directions for hospital is when you come to C&A carry on straight round a bendy street as you come to the bend at the end you will see a court with pubs and restaurants in it, cut accross the court, continue to end of that street take a left walk to very bottom of that street and take right half way up that street the hospital is there. Husband says its a nice walk.. Hotel food not so good and expensive.. great pizza and kebab place up the street as if you are going to hospital.. I am still in pain now and finding it hard being on liquids but I am not hungry I think its because I am so used to socially eating its hard not too (if you know what I mean).. I am going to be honest its a big operation and not to be taken lightly, I know everyone is different but please be prepared everyone.. on the good side its a new journey and for once in my life with dieting its one I am bloody going to try my hardest at....Pain relief I am taking now is paracetamol with codeine, this is great but its awful crushing it down.. Just having a hot choc.. yum yum keep the advice coming for me ladies.. I know after 10 days I can go on to blended food, does it have to be really blended or can I just mush it with a fork? good luck everyone who is on there way :blushing:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
