Hi Shoes,

Remember me, Fatpants?

Well I just came on to ask a question, but you have answered it for me! We're going on hol's on the 8th of October and wondered if flying made the band tighter!

I can't believe it! You've lost 5 stone 10lbs since the 6th of March! That is amazing, well done, you must be ecstatic!

I got banded on the 17 March, I have had four fills = 6.25mls in total, I was due another fill on the 1st October but I had 1 small incident last week when I couldn't swallow, quite scary, the food automatically came back out, this has never happened before. In the past when I have hads food stuck I have normally managed to flush it down gulping Water, albeit sore and I am sure not good for the old band area of the stomach! My last fill was on the 30 July, I missed out last month as I was feeling quite comfortable, not hungry, eating smaller portions and slowly losing weight, not as much as you though! I was happy to go for the fill on the 1/10 until the wee incident when I couldn't swallow! So I e-mailed Chris, expecting him to say not to have a fill but he suggested an unfill, which I am not keen on as I don't want to be tempted and put on loads of weight! What do you think?

Can you tell me about your weight loss and fills etc.... I just though I would have lost more weight by now, and I am a wee bit disappointed. Before my op when I was on the thread night and day, it seemed to me people were losing on average 1 stone a month over the first six months or so. I keep telling my self that maybe others have more weight to lose and therefore lose it faster in the beginning. I shouldn't really moan as I still indulge on chocolate and ice cream ......... occassionally!

When I went on my pre op diet I weighed 16st12lbs, when I went for my op I weighed 16st5lbs, I now weigh 13stones10lbs.

Please can you let me know your progress so I can compare!

Thanks

Fatpants :bored:

Hi Fatpants congrats,s on your weight loss so far, we are all different dont compare yourself 4 stone is fab,i have had 4 fills didn't get restriction till last fill 8th of July so far i have had 6 & half mils, since i came back from hols restriction seems to be disappearing a the mo but glad didn't get fill before hols went very tight after 7 hour flight, even tho i didn't have good restriction in the first few months i was very streaked with myself dont ask me where i got the will power from i just kept saying to my self i didn't put my body through all that to ruin it all giving into eating all the bad stuff that got me in this state in the first place, i had a little break out on hols that was the first time i had any goody's since op i think that's why the weight came off so quick but it hasn't been easy as i am a chocoholic its all or nothing with me i am finding it very hard since hols keep thinking about choc all the time but so far so good manage to fight off cravings i really think i need a fill at the mo,im not sure what you should do about defill before hols depends how much restriction you have at the mo if you think your to tight then maybe you should to be on the safe side, i felt i could do with a fill before hols i decided to wait till i came back long hal flight does make your band tight, its hard one i knew your afraid if he takes to much out your back to square one i think you should go by your own instincts hope this is of some help :smile2:xx

Hi all

Well were do I begin about how mad I am with dozy registrar, following the probs I had 6-7wks ago, I got my URGENT app just last Thur ( I am now much better, but went anyway for advice if symptoms should return) big,big mistake!!

From Reg' entered the room her attitude towards me was appalling before she asked how I was she said they see people all the time that have gastric bands privately and then return to nhs with complications, she said it was most likely my band had slipped which is BULL**** whats it done slipped back now I'm better. Tried to tell her 3 GP's had said it was oesophagitis she was having none of it - and advised me to return to Chris and let him deal with me. I had app' today with Wendy who agreed totally with GP's and said she would be very happy to speak to reg' concerned and explained band slippage (to supply her name and ph no. in letter)

I have wrote letter of formal complaint to nhs. I should have been treated with respect and not pre-judged.

I had steam coming out my ears last Thurs :bored:

Sorry for rant!!

Hi Shoes,

Thanks for that. I know what you mean about the chocolate! That and ice cream is my down fall, since my op I have still indulged a little on those two things, but not nearly as much as I used to! I can't have chocolate in the house, as I just keep on thinking about it, it feels as if I have a wee devil on my shoulder saying "Oh come on, it's waiting for you in the cupboard, it's just sitting there, you better crab it before someone else sees it!" Honestly it sound stupid but I can't relax until I've eaten it!

Well I think I'm at quite good restriction now as I am not hungry during the day and I usually have a coffee for Breakfast then a tin of Soup and a yoghurt for lunch, and whatever we're having for tea but half the portion I used to have! I can't anything too hard or that needs a lot of chewing. So I thought that even if the band does go tighter I should still be OK, I was due a fill on the 1st but decided to postpone it till I came, I didn't think of having an unfill! Even if it does go tighter, as longer as I can still drink liquids: Water, Soup & yoghurt I should be ok, we're just going on a beach Holiday (hooray!) so I don't need a lot of energy! Thanks for your guiding advice I really appriciat it as I was in a dilema!

Take care

Anita, I am shocked and disgusted with your GP's attitude toward you, she needs to be reported. Whatever her personal views, they should be kept private, she is there to help you as her patient. How dare she judge you!

Nasty woman. You need support and kindness at this time, I think I would change my doctor, you dont have to put up with that.

Thanx Homecare for your kind words xx

Hi Fatpants your very welcome i think you be fine as you say once you can drink and get soft food in you be fine i tried to eat proper food but it kept getting stuck so enjoyed myself ice cream & new York cheese cake yum, next day i came home i got back on track which i have never!!!!! been able to do usually it would take me about 3 months to start again its a learning curve i did feel a bit guilty about eating the bad stuff had to keep telling myself its OK to have the nice things now and again before with me it was nice things every day all day, still fighting off the choc demons :) dont think that will ever go so the safe way for me is not have any but having said that i am going to treat myself now again just dont trust myself yet, but for the mo im going to be good look forward to having a bit of choc at Xmas, i think we have to learn its ok to have something you like in moderation, i know i sound like a food junky but for me its an addiction, but before i could never have anything in moderation thats all changing for the better thanks to this little miracle band that has change my life so much for the better, fatpants have a great holiday sounds like you do have good restriction i think you be fine as long as your able to drink and eat soft food :tongue2: xx

Hello there everyone,

Haven't been on here in a while, but I'm back.

6 weeks post op today and 29lbs lost.

Feeling fantastic.

But boy i don't like that feeling of when the food hasn't been chewed propertly and gets stuck. OMG the pain!!!

I love my dinner hot and to be honest, tend to have mush for my dinner so I can eat it faster. If the dinner gets anyway cold, forget it, I just won't bother eating it.

Yesterday I was eating all round me, today I can eat barely anything.

Had my first fill 1st sept and had 3ml put in.

My next fill is 1st Oct, next week!!

All going well otherwise, so long as i chew.

Throwing out my size 20 jeans and trousers is a great feeling, knowing I will never need them again either :tongue2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
