sjac 19 Posted January 23, 2017 I am almost 3 weeks post-op and I’ve been following my eating instructions very closely. I know I’m early on in the process but I was wondering, when should I start tracking my calorie intake again like I was pre-op? Up to this point I have had no issues with eating, but like I said, I’m following my instructions closely. So at this point I’m not really worried about overeating, I’m just trying to make sure I get my Protein and Water in every day. At this point I have only been hungry maybe once or twice I’ve been losing weight at a rapid pace and my blood sugars have been a little high to my liking but stable. Any information would be greatly appreciated thanks
blizair09 3,250 Posted January 23, 2017 I have tracked my calories, carbs, and Protein all along -- including when I was working through the food stages. I've been doing it since I started my six month pre-op diet program, so it is just ingrained in me now. That being said, in the early days, as you said, it is all about Protein and Water goals, but I was always interested in the calories, too. Good luck! mylighthouse 782 Posted January 23, 2017 If you don't already know, you can easily track your calories, carbs, Protein, sugars at myfitnesspal.com It's real easy to use and adds everything up for you. Like blizair09, I have been tracking all of that since the beginning. Actually started with my pre-op diet two weeks before surgery. You are going to want to know how many calories you are getting in, because the further you get out, it might be real useful for example, if you stop losing weight. In my case, I stopped losing weight and talked to my nutritionist and she told me that I was not getting in enough calories. I was always under 600 calories a day (at about 6 weeks post op). I had to make some adjustments to get in more calories. Now I am back to losing weight again after weeks of not losing weight. 1 Lillie Lou reacted to this
mommyjess 11 Posted January 23, 2017 My doctor isn't concerned with calories as long as I'm getting 60-80g Protein, less than 60g carbs and less than 20g fat. He doesn't want me to focus on calories because then I'll stress about too much or not enough. If I'm listening to my body I'll do fine and I have so far. 7 weeks out and I'm down 50 lbs. I was reading this and hoping my doctor wouldn't be concerned with calories because I absolutely hate counting them. If I have to, I will, but then I looked up to the side and saw that you have Dr Stegemann!!!! I too have him. Had my first consult last week. What a lovely man! I like him even more now... If I get 800 I loose weight. That just seems so weird but hey I'll take that. Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App
Airstream88 361 Posted January 23, 2017 I keep track of mine to make sure I'm eating enough. At 12 weeks out I'm averaging about 800 - 1000 calories a day (right on target according to my Dr's nurse) depending on my Protein intake. My Protein goal is 70 - 90. I try to hit 90 on the days I'm working out.
LosinLiz82316 21 Posted January 26, 2017 I started tracking calories 3 months out - when I was back on regular foods. But my main goal (STILL) is protein!
