Jodster 38 Posted January 22, 2017 I'm 1 week post op. I can barely take in more than a few sips. Is that normal? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
White Sale 339 Posted January 22, 2017 It is common, but try like heck to get in your fluids or you'll end up in a very bad state. Keep that Water bottle with you like a bad habit. Take teeny sips often. You will get through this!

Jodster 38 Posted January 23, 2017 I am trying. It's hard for me aparently. And I was a huge Water drinker. Sip is my new word all the time.
kar12345 74 Posted January 24, 2017 I could only manage very tiny sips after surgery. 12 days out for me, and I can say it just takes time - gets easier day by day. Taking normal sips now. I don't remember which day exactly it happened, but it was gradual. But it made me so stressed because I too was a huge Water drinker. Hang in there - every sip counts!!!! AdyB UK 1 Posted February 3, 2017 Hi. Just joined the forum. I was sleeved two days ago (Feb 1st) struggling to drink as much as I should, sipping as often as possible but don't seem to get though more than 1ltr a day? I was told to aim for 2ltr but the hospital said some people struggle at first? Any comments appreciated. Jodster 38 Posted February 6, 2017 It's getting better. I'm about 3.5 weeks out. I really had trouble at first. I still struggle a little but I am able to drink more and it's getting easier. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
AdyB UK 1 Posted February 6, 2017 Good to hear Jodster, it's got better already. I'm almost at 2ltrs now and finding it easier. I'm having blended Soup and also sugar free Protein shakes (not at the same time!) which is helping too! JMarshall 352 Posted February 9, 2017 I was sleeved 5 years ago and had problems getting my liquids after surgery and had to be hospitalized for borderline kidney failure from severe dehydration. The best advice I can give you is try try Water at different temperatures. I was able to drink warm and hot water without issue but the cold water for some reason made my stomach hurt. Hope this helps. Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App
Lisa O 52 Posted February 10, 2017 I actually set alarms for everything. My after surgery book gave me the steps on what to eat and when and what to drink and ehen. No Water within 15 minutes of meals, and very small food every hour. So my Water alarm was set at waking. First thing was my sipping...then I set the alarm for 15 min. Then id have my "meal" ...as we know its more of a spoon full. Then id set my alarm for 45 min and start it all again. Of course the timing was based on what week I was on. The more weeks in I had more water alarms than food alarms. I also set my alarms in between for walking. After I ate, I walked for 15-minutes.... Best gift I bought myself? I bought those baby appetizer forks and spoons! It really helped me take smaller bites and eat slower! I also bought a set of2 x 2 cupcake plates! Still use them!!! It all sounds silly, but it really helped! And puts me back on track now... 3 years later!!!
