Dating?....

Recommended Posts

So I think I saw this topic before but I couldn't find it again.. So, I am 31 and have lost 78 lbs so far and have about 28 to go to hit my goal weight. I am a very happy, go-lucky person and haven't been in a relationship for about 7 years. I have been thinking about trying to put myself out there in the dating scene again but I'm not sure how I would bring up the bypass topic. For instance, if I was going to go out to dinner on a date, do I tell him why I would only eat a few bites, or how have others handled that? Do you tell them up front that you've had it, or wait for a time for it to come up?

For me personally I feel the best way to go about this is being honest. There is nothing to be ashamed about. You chose to put your health first and that's something to be proud of. If anything it's an interesting conversation starter as well. Usually people aren't familiar with the ins and outs of this surgery and it's exciting to be in a position to break the stigma behind WLS. Don't overthink it! The whole point of a date is to get familiar with someone and to enjoy their company. If it comes up then good! If it doesn't and you decide to go out again eventually it will. The surgery is just a small piece of what makes you the person that you are.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
