Sugar is a major reason for weight gain. And has zero nutritional value. You need to focus only on foods that nourish your body after wls. That is how I approach food now. Does it provide nutrients or is it filler. If it the latter I'll take a pass. Google is your best friend on the sugar question.

Great question!

from a weight loss perspective, sugar wreaks havoc in your body. You eat it, then your blood sugar spikes and your body responds by pumping out insulin to get it out of your blood and move it into your liver for storage. As a result, your blood sugar dips down and your body responds to that by triggering cravings for more in an effort to stabilize. vicious cycle.

Also, I've found that now that I avoid added sugar and all grains (bread, Pasta, etc), that i don't have any cravings and find it easy to stay on track.

Since surgery I haven't had sugar and never craved it. I used to love it on Cornflakes and in tea and coffee. Sugar, in my opinion is the worst thing you can put into your body. It's addictive, screws your health up and has no nutritional value at all. For me, it's like carbs. The more I have the more I want.

I've never craved sugar until surgery! UGH!!! I want it, and I want it in cookie form! Im now trying to eat a more plant based diet which includes fruit, that's how Im going about killing the craving...hopefully eating more vegetarian will help, so far so good, and I feel better without consuming whey, I prefer to get my Protein via Vegan options such as nuts, lentils, Beans, etc...

Mix three bananas, a half cup of cocoa powder, two scoops of Protein powder and a half cup of no sugar almond or Peanut Butter. Scoop into mini muffin cups (lined) and bake for 15 minutes at 375. Store in the freezer. Tastes just like carpet underlayment but vaguely reminiscent of a fudgy brownie.

I didn't have any sugar cravings after surgery until I ate it. I've been having a hard time the past few days with carbs and sugar. I know that I need to cut it out entirely now, but I've also proven to myself that it's sooooo not worth it! I eat it, and it's just not as good as I remember it being.

Some people actually react to sugar with dumping, my surgeon never said no sugar, just suggests to avoid it. A lot of things have sugar, so cutting it out entirely can be next to impossible but when you start trying to limit carbs you will be surprised where they are hidden. You have to figure out for you, how your body react to it? Can you have a little without triggering a ton of cravings? And can you meet your other nutrition goals first?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
