None. I had tylenol, liquid and pill form, at home. I have a high pain tolerance level and dislike the feeling pain meds gives me. Also, the longer you take them the longer it is before you can drive.

Oh my gosh yes, don't forget to get Miralax on a regular basis with the narcotic medication! I went to the ER with Constipation because I couldn't go by myself! It was embarrassing taking a dump in the ER! Colace, docusate sodium, was not enough for me!

I thought I was tough but I required the pain meds in the hospital- could have used more than the Percocet 5mg q 4 hours, and Dilaudid day of surgery and first day postop- then it was dcd. I was in the hospital 3 days, very rough on this 44 yo.

Went home on Lortab liquid and Tylenol.

I thought, like you, that I would not need it--- every person, each surgeon I'm sure has differing surgical methods...

I have had gallbladder, bladder tact, reflux surgery, and went home on no pain meds. Not the case this time :(

So I guess I'm saying you will know when the surgery is done what you will need.

I was sent home with pain meds which I used for two days. The pain was a lot less than I expected it to be.

Oh and which surgery are u having performed?

The RNY will be more invasive than the sleeve. So that will vary your acute postop pain control :)

My surgeon gave me a perscription for dilaudid, and I never used any of it. I struggled with neaseau after surgery and knew the pain meds would only make it worse. Walking helped the most with the gas pains and the incision sites weren't anything that needed narcotics to dull.

nope - I had RNY and had almost no pain at all. Both surgeries are done laproscopically, and both involve cutting things and moving things, so it's not going to make a difference pain-wise. It totally depends on the person.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
