I had Gastric sleeve surgery 11/18/16. Started preop 11/6/16. Starting preop weight was 280, surgery weight 267. I am 9 weeks post op and now weigh 237. That is a weight loss of 43lbs. I have gone from size 26/28 jeans to 20 and from 3xl shirts to xl. I am proud I have lost 43lbs; but I am getting discouraged. I am eating 800 calories a day, 20-40 carbs, 30-50 grams Protein, drinking 60-120oz of Water a day. I either do 1 hour of exercise at the gym or walk 2.5-3 miles every day. I am having problems with BM and I am having to eat 1 cup of Activa each day and take dulcolax once a week to even have one BM. I know I need more protein but can not drink the Protein Shakes or do the Protein Powder. Have tried numerous times and get very sick from them.

I have only lost 1-2 lbs the last two weeks. I need some support on what can I do to get in more protein(cheese is out because of the Constipation issue) and what can I do to get weight loss started back on a steady larger amount? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was sleeved on 11-14.

I get between 750-900 calories a day. I can easily get in almost 60 grams of Protein without adding shakes or Protein powder to my diet. But I like to get my Protein close to 100 grams, so I add those things.

I feel like you really need to up that protein in a big way. I know you said that you know you need to. Since you can't do the Protein drinks or the unflavored protein powder, I would suggest that you add in some protein packed Snacks. Eat your regular 3 meals with protein such as yogurt, eggs, or Egg Beaters for Breakfast. Then maybe have a mid morning snack. Even if it is an ounce or two of rolled up lunch turkey meat, since you can't have cheese. Then eat your meat for lunch and dinner and have another afternoon snack, maybe deli meat rolled up again.

This will give you over 60 grams of protein in addition to your main meals at Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, be sure you are eating protein first, and veggies last. Always fill up on your protein before anything else.

I have seen a lot of people say that you need to get that protein up in order to lose weight. Plus it has other benefits and is very important in healing.

Good luck.

Greek yogurt, peanuts/seeds, Peanut Butter or powder, boiled egg, black beans/refried Beans. You're getting in a good amount of exercise, you may need to up your daily calorie intake....your body thinks it's starving, slows down burning calories, so give it some fuel and it will release the weight.

Thank you. What kind of deli meat do you buy? I can eat boiled eggs but scrambled make me very sick since I had my surgery. Do you mind sharing what high protein Snacks you eat?

I know u said no shakes but I just read somewhere to pour one into little round ICE CUBE TRAYS and pop them thruout the day!! Might be more tolerable for you?? The banana cream from Walmart is so much better than van/choc. Good luck

Have you tried Probiotics? During my last visit with my surgeon she recommended Ultimate Flora 20 billion/capsule since I was coming off antibiotics, but she said I should continue to take them since they are go for our guts and helps with gas and weight loss. Also, hummus, Beans, cottage cheese, yogurt...Are high in protein. I would say, stay away from carbs and focus on lean protein/fiber instead, drink your liquids and physical activity. Good luck.

I was sleeved on 11/16/16 and experience the same thing. Do not be encouraged, you are doing great! First pounds come off easier, after first 15-20 pounds which is more Water, you loose much slower, it is better for your health and more steady loss. As long as you weight goes down, you can be on stall and than it will jump down more. Be patient. Good luck!

You can buy the Oscar Meyer or your local store's deli meat or other brand. Deli meat is soft and actually goes down easy. Low fat too. It might just work as a snack for you, it's so easy to just grab a small piece or two and roll it up.

I usually get the smoked turkey and like that. I don't eat a lot of deli meat, just as a small snack to get in that little bit of extra Protein and of course it will give you some calories too.

I'm only down 43lbs too and I was sleeved a week before you (10/27). I haven't really exercised thought yet. I've had a lot of long stalls so I started he Keto diet (super low carb , moderate Protein , high fat), and the lbs are melting away. It's tough at first and you have to talk to your doc if you have gallbladder issues but it helped me get over stalls.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
