Unsuccessful revision :-(

Recommended Posts

I was so excited to go under the knife 2 weeks ago for my band to sleeve revision. My surgeon told me there would be a 15% chance that he would only take out the band, if there was too much scar tissue he wouldn't be able to do the sleeve in the same surgery. Unfortunately, I was in the 15%. I woke up and was utterly disappointed. Now I have to wait 3 months to let my stomach heal from all the inflammation that was where my band was. The surgeon said he "feels pretty confident" he can still do the sleeve. Has anyone gone through this? I'm just so down about all of this, and of course all I want to do is overeat. :-(

Try to channel your disappointment into making positive change with your weight now. Start eating low carb (or whatever works for you) and challenge yourself to lose as much weight as you can in these next three months. No matter how everything works out, you will feel better and be in a better place than you are right now. The six months of "waiting" that I had to do pre-op was the best thing that ever happened to me. I lost 99 pounds by the day of the surgery and put myself in the best position to have a successful surgery and post-op experience. You can do the same thing!!

Good luck!

I had to wait two months between my band removal and the gastric sleeve. This was planned from the beginning, as my surgeon won't do a conversion in one go. i did gain about 6 pounds during that waiting time, but the time went by pretty quickly. I'm 4 weeks post op and doing great. This is all worth it so hang in there! I'd had two bands and a hiatal hernia and still got my sleeve surgery done! It's such a different experience. I love the difference.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
