Newme17 3,444 Posted January 21, 2017 (edited) I've only found articles in Australia for this. http://www.bariatric-solutions.com/minimizer-gastric-ring.htm Still have no idea what it does... Luce587 48 Posted January 21, 2017 Two people I know here in Australia have the minimiser ring with their sleeves. They said that it slows their eating and creates further restriction. The guy no longer tolerates red meat well and the girl can't handle pork/chicken unless slow cooked. My surgeon didn't recommend it for me, being a band to sleeve convert. I can't tell how much a restriction should be with or without it. I have no one to compare to with one lol My surgeon has had a sleeve and has he minimiser ring as well. I didn't think to ask him about it. I can eat chicken breast and pork shredded and beef mince ok. I have had mango stuck cause I don't think I chewed it well enough. I'm still trying to work out how it stops your sleeve from " stretching" over time. If there is such a thing. I guess I'm more restricted then others Thank u for replying back Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
XmeghannstarX 43 Posted January 21, 2017 I talked to my surgeon about this option and he said in the U.S. most insurances don't cover it. He also didn't recommend it, as it adds more unnecessary risk for complication by inserting a foreign object, also it can wear out, slip, be too tight, etc. So he feels it is not worth it. Cause it's only been done for 5 years over here ( pretty sure only here for 5 ) I haven't heard much about it. I know of two people that have had it done with so far no issues. But long term no one knows I guess. As I said my surgeon has it as well so I gather that's why he offers it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
