Hi guys ! So I'm 3 days out from surgery. Day 1 and 2 were pretty bad, today I feel much better. Yesterday I kept crying for no reason and it had me very worried, has it happened to some of you ? Also my back pain is very bad, I'm not sure if it's because of gas or because I'm not confortable. It worries me also cause I can't lay in bed or sleep properly... I wanna know about your experiences, how are the first weeks of the surgery ? How is your experience

I am 3 days post op also, and days 1 & 2 were tough.today was much better. I have not cried at all, or even been really emotional at all. Come to think of, the back pain that I normally have had not bothered me since surgery. The pain I do have in my shoulders was gas pain, and it has already gone almost completely. Walking has really helped with that pain.

I'm not sure I'm a good example for you since I had to be opened up.. I don't even remember the first day and I was pretty drugged up.. The bed was super uncomfy for me I almost slept better in the recliner.. I didn't have issues with the gas pain since I was opened up and I had issues with lots of pain in back n hips before surgery so.. I know things got better each day for me.. Good luck!

I'm also in my first days. Day 4 today. Doing well. A bit of back pain because of laying on my back. I'm used to sleeping sideways but I have a drain and if I do so some fluids leak from the side of the thing and it's a mess.

Almost no pain. I was discharged on day 2. Been walking and moving around the house. That helps

Hi I sorry to hear your having such a hard time. I was where you are now a few months back no I didn't cry. I wasn't in much pain so I stopped taking meds. The discomfort you're feeling is most likely gas. You have to walk walk walk and it will go away and get better over time. Good luck!

My first week was pretty bad! I was in the hospital for 2 days post my surgery and I was very uncomfortable. I had a lot of gas pain in my chest and my drain site was painful. Once I was home it got better. I'm now a little over a 3 weeks out and doing much better.

Hi! I am 5 days out. I have had no pain, they gave me only Tylenol in recovery room and that is all I have taken. I don't remember much of the 1st day... I am walking ALOT so that has helped with the gas pain. I do get this wave of pain in my chest..but it feels like gas...then I wonder if it's my sleeve having a spasm. I was released the day after surgery, and my only issue is getting in all the fluids. I am between 40 - 50 oz..and my Dr. had a fit I was not at 64.

Weird thing is, I had broth once, and it almost made me throwup, I am pretty much living on Water and my Protein drink...which I am up to 8 oz a day...

So far so good....oh, and no tears...

Hi hope you're feeling a little better by now. Day 19 post op for me. The first 3 days were pure hell n pain for me. Cried my eyes out day 1+2, think it was my hormones going nuts bec our body just went through a major trauma. By day 7 i had no more pain but i was loyal to my gas x day 3+. Made all the difference. I too am a side sleeper and can honestly say days 7-13 i was crabby bec i was so sick of sleeping w a pillow tucked under my belly but day 14 the pillow tuck ended and i slept on my belly. Best nights sleep ever :-). It gets better. You'll be ok, hang in there.

Today is day 3 for me and it's been rough. I was discharged yesterday afternoon and went straight home to relax and take more pain/nausea meds. I can feel my incisions and they are very sore but I wouldn't say the incision pain is horrendous, by any means. If I try to get out of bed too quickly I'll experience very sharp pains in my incision sites though. The gas has been the WORST! The best way to describe it is like feeling as if you need to burp/throw up almost constantly. When I do have tiny burps it lessens that pain but no bowel movements yet. I think my anxiety easily gets me worked up about how uncomfortable I am and that is playing a huge factor. When I'm calm and relaxed I barely notice any pain.

One other thing is I constantly feel ravenous. I'm assuming this is tied mainly to my gas pains and acid in my stomach trying to adjust. I'm on the Phase 2 diet until I go see my surgeon in a week. And yes, it's only day 3 but I have for sure thought "okay this sucks. Why did I do this again?" One thing that keeps me positive is knowing each day will get easier and easier. And of course picturing myself smaller, healed up, and feeling amazing about the mental and physical changes relaxes me.

Does anyone have recommendations, or even encouragement haha, on how to feel more comfortable? I've only slept a total of 6 hours since the surgery. I'm really trying to push myself to walk around because I know that can help with gas.

I did sleep in a recliner a few nights after leaving hospital. Just really get that Fluid in and the Protein shake. 2 ounces twice a day is so important, and yes walk around the house. Hold a pillow to you that is also helpful.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
