I just found this app and wow I'm happy I did. I am a 23 year old female from New York and I weigh 325 pounds.. I have always been overweight my whole life. And enough is enough. I have 2 more months of the nutritionist meeting before I get cleared for my surgery. I'm so nervous I can puke! Hearing other people's experience helps ease my nerves so please tell away. I have to lose 16 pounds by first week of March so that my insaurance can pay for it. I feel like I can't reach that. Did anyone else have an issue with it? I'm starting to exercise now and I'm feeling better about reaching that goal weight. But still.... Any tips? Can't wait to hear from you guys.

Part of my insurance requirement was to do 6 months of food journals. I know it can be a pain in the arse to do, but it really is an eye opener. There are lots of programs out there but I used MyFitnessPal. Has a large database of food that takes a lot of guesswork out. Knowing for sure how many calories you're getting is important. Little things add up quickly and be the 100-200 calories that puts you over the edge of losing weight. Maybe try swapping out one meal for a Protein shake. Exercise will naturally help. My NUT always said do whatever you can. Get up and walk around for a minute or two just to get up.

Good luck on your journey! It may seem impossible but if you really put your mind to it you'll get there.

Thank you! I'm currently using the app "lose it" it is an eye opener to see everything I eat, with my eyes. My insurance requires 5% weight loss. So that's what I'm working on now! Btw cute dog!

The upside to being bigger is that usually weight falls off pretty quick in the beginning once you start exercising on a regular basis. When I was younger I got up to nearly 400lbs. Became a gym rat and got all the way down to 265. The early days were much easier and the weight came off quicker. Plus I started equating the calories I burned doing 15-20 minutes on the stair climber to the calories of food. I started looking at everything as "ugh...that's 30 minutes on the stair climber to eat that!"

And thanks for the comment on our boy. He's our latest adoption. We have a greyhound obsession in our house...lol

I had to lose 10%, and it was pretty easy. I actually lost almost 30% pre-op. I got My Fitness Pal and limited myself to 1200 calories a day. It was premier Protein for Breakfast, a low- carb frozen meal dumped over a mountain of spinach for lunch, and a regular dinner, just measuring portions.

I couldn't eat like that long-term pre-surgery, but I did it for two months and lost 32 pounds. It was worth it to qualify for surgery--my surgeon is very strict with weight loss before surgery. She figures of you can't do it, you're not ready for long-term changes.

I lost 99 pounds (from 397 to 298) during my six-month, insurance-required pre-op diet program. It was the best thing I ever did. I did low carb/moderate-to-high protein/moderate-to-high healthy fat. I worked my way from 2000 calories to 1800 to 1500 to 1200 for the last 3 months of it, less than 20 carbs per day, and about 100 grams of Protein per day. Exercise-wise, I walked 45 minutes per day, 5 days a week, and usually something a little more strenuous on Saturdays.

I'd suggest trying low carb. It has always worked wonders for me. I continued low carb through my post-op food stages, and am still following it now at 3.5 months post-op.

Good luck!

I am currently half way through my insurance required weight loss trial. I've lost 23 pounds. My goal is to lose another 33 lbs.

My primary care doctor has me on a low carb diet. I drink a premier Protein shake and eat a fruit for Breakfast, a Protein and veges for lunch, and a protein and veges for dinner. I snack on seeds. I drink a lot of Water and have a glass of tea each day.

Talk to your doctor or nut and see if low carb will work for you. You can do it.

That's a great way of thinking about it!!! I'm going to start doing that.

Greyhounds are awesome! I'm a dog trainer so dogs are my passion

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
