Getting sleeved in June

Recommended Posts

I will most likely have my surgery in June as well. I have been eating lots of Protein and keeping my carbs very low. I lost 25lbs since Thanksgiving, but it's getting harder and harder to be strict. I am not required to lose weight for my insurance, but I'd like to help myself get as close to 300lbs as possible (am 5'8" and 345 now). I am 35 so we are close in age!

Start practicing chewing the heck out of your food. It's hard to get used to chewing and chewing and chewing it, so it's broken down significantly before it gets to your new tiny tummy. You also need to eat much slower, so practice that as well.

I will hopefully be getting sleeved by August as June will be my last dietician appointment for insurance. I am 31, 5'8" and 330lbs right now. So far I have been cutting out diet soda, coffee, switched to decaff tea and splenda instead of sugar. Working on not eating out, junk foods, and portion sizes. Trying to walk more and will restart weight training in March. Some days it seems like I'm not doing much and others it seems like alot... and head hunger already sucks! Been trying to find ways to combat that as well!

Good for you. I think I'd try to increase Fiber. Cutting out all those things are key.. plus you'll have to get through withdrawal. I'm 5 weeks post op and truly never hungry. But I'm bored from not eating.. if that makes sense. I've been watching a lot of cooking shows .. it somehow satisfies me to watch them eat [emoji16]

It's weird... I'm a little sad that I can't eat but then again the thought of eating makes me feel sick/uncomfortable. So it's a love/hate thing .

Yeah. I saw doctor 12/3 for consult and decided to do self pay.. I wasn't ready to wait ANY longer for ins company BS. I had surgery 5 weeks after I met with him. After Christmas I just wanted to get it done.. to start my new life. It helps if you are mentally ready for the changes in your life. My last thought before being wheeled in was.. ok... they can't undo this.. are you REALLY SURE??? haha.. I was!

Every habit you need to adopt after surgery, adopt now. Eat the right amount of Protein, chew your food thoroughly, don't drink before, during or after meals, make your meals last 30 minutes, exercise at least 5 times a week, figure out if there are foods you should completely avoid, stop drinking alcohol.

These are habits, and habits need to be developed.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
