pre op diet?

I finished all my pre op specialist appts, now Its just insurance required monthly weigh ins until April. Is there a pre op diet I am supposed to be following leading up to my surg? I don't have a date yet, so will my surgeon tell me if there is a regimen I'm supposed to be following once we have a surg date set? I see that people are on pre op diets but it was never mentioned to me. please advise.

You should receive instructions if your surgeon requires a pre-op diet. Usually the pre-op diet is 1-4 weeks (depending on your surgeon) and is meant to help shrink the liver prior to surgery to make it easier for your surgeon to access your stomach during the operation.

Beyond meeting whatever insurance requirements that you have, the surgeons office will give you the instructions that they want you to follow prior to surgery. Diet will vary from liquids only the day before (or even simply nothing after midnight) to several weeks of some kind of low calorie, carb or liquid diet. It's a big YMMV thing, so just do what your surgeon wants you to do and don't worry about what others may have to do - it will drive you batty.
