Question about the staples.

Recommended Posts

I hope this doesn't sound too dumb. I was wondering what happens to the staples they use in surgery? Do they just dissolve, fall out or stay there? That kinda concerns me. Anyone ever ask that?

They stay there. They are made of titanium and last forever.

Way my doc explained it is that your stomach will basically heal over them. Kind of like the scar tissue forms around them. They also said it's not something that would trigger an alarm going through a security checkpoint or anything like that.

They stay there and its the coolest thing! I went to the chiropractor and he took an X-ray and you can see them in there! SO NEAT!

Great question, I don't know. Maybe skin grows around them but what if one got loose. Now u have me thinking.

Skin definitely doesn't grow around them! Scar tissue does and they are encased. I have never once heard a story of a staple causing complications years down the road. They have been doing gastric bypass with titanium staples for decades.

Thank you all for answering my question. I already have titanium in my neck so no problem. I figured there had to be a way for them not to come lose and be floating around in your body. LOL I was really concerned about it though. Thank you all for your help.

if you want to see what the staples look like, there are some youtube videos of actual sleeve surgeries. very very cool.

it is amazing how they perform the sleeve and I was really surprised by the small size and large number of staples. I felt better after watching.

Thank you. I have already watched a video on YouTube about the surgery. Yes, it was definately interesting to see the cutter/stapler in action.

That is what made me question the staples.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
