Surgery February 7th in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Headed to Mexico on February 7th. How am I feeling? Well that is a good question. I am excited about the future, worried about the future, nervous of complications since I do not have insurance and my surgeon will be so far away.

Honestly I backed out of my January date because I let my fears get the best I me. But this time non refundable ticket bought and I am going through with it.

I am encouraged by all of the success stories and then freaked out about all the complications. Lol. Yep, you do not want to be in my head right now.

Starting pre op diet next Tuesday.

Good luck to you! I know you mentioned you don't have insurance. Does that mean you don't have a PCP to order follow-up bloodwork and such once you are home? That would be a scary prospect for anyone, I would think.

I actually live in Honduras as a missionary. I am in the US right now because my 12 year old daughter has been diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis.

I will get my blood work done here and when we get to go home ( probably around July) I will follow up there.

@PrelyHernan: Good luck with your surgery! I'll also be in Tijuana for my surgery on Feb. 9th. Dr. Q was on my shortlist but in the end I decided to go with Dr. Cabrera at MBC. I live in Japan, so, (probably) like you, have to deal with a lot of things in a country which does not have a lot of the same support, food, medical care, or other issues for bariatric surgery patients that those in the US/Canada/UK/Aus have access to. I know post-op care is important, but I can't imagine any doctor here refusing to give me care because of my surgery elsewhere.

I did my surgery in Tijuana on Dec. 5th with Dr. Frayre/Dr. Ponce. It went great. I had very good care. Surgery is never a walk in the park, but sleeve surgery is one of the easiest to get through, and a fairly quick recovery. I wish you all the best!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
