second thoughts?

To band or not to band. That is your question to answer, BUT, I have the band and I too went thru the doubts and fears after the decision. Then I started to think. I have dieted many times and when I reached or almost reached my goal, slowly it would start coming back on. Very few can control their desire to eat 24/7 small portions or to abstain from favorite foods. With the band, when you reach the sweet spot, you will feel satisfied after 3 oz of food and 1/2 cup of veggies and you will feel satisfied for hours after. To reach that level, you must first learn how to control your eating which could be PBing and to learn to incorporate exercise in your daily routine. But at the end of the day, the band to me is the only thing keeping me feeling so good about myself. No one can make this decision, but if I could I would say "caste the doubts aside and go for it". If it doesn't work, you can have the band removed but if you don't try, you will never know what thousands of banders already know. The band is their life savior. Doddie.

Ok all I feel better. I have not cancelled! Oct 19 is still the day. I have come to terms that I can not except this to be easy. I have to work hard for this and take the good with the bad.

Hugs Crispy! This is not an easy decision. All I can say is that I had a few doubts going into surgery and even did a last meal WHILE I was on Optifast. It was like I was in a period of mourning for all the food I wouldn't be able to eat after being banded AND that I wouldn't be able to comfortably eat large amounts ever again. So silly that I would miss gulping down a big meal, isn't it? I guess not really but that's what I had convinced myself of before surgery.

I am not just over a week out from surgery and it is so much easier being able to accept this new lifestyle being on the other side. It is often the fear of the unknown that get's to us. Right now, I am just enjoying the rewards of eatting small amounts and am fascinated that I am able to be satisfied in doing so. Plus, I now get to reap the rewards of doing this by losing weight.

For me, it has been easier after the surgery as opposed to before. I am looking forward to Christmas being a slimmer me. I am looking forward to next February when I go away to Jamaica because I know I will feel better and look better when I am sitting on the beach in a bathing suit. I am looking forward to spring when all the new summer clothes are out because I will be able to buy them and feel and look good! It is these things that motivate me now.:whoo:

Thanks for responding. I too am looking forward to Christmas. I feel so much stronger today. I think I have turned a new leaf. Does that make sense. lol My boss actually asked me to postpone it as it is going to be quite busy. I quickly said NO that this was approved a while back, and came to an agreement I will work weekends and nights to make sure I don't leave everyone stranded while I am away. I took 1 week off. Do you think that is enough time. Do you think i will be ok going to work after the first week?

Check with your doctor, but I would just stay away from any lifting until you heal and are back on solids. Some people have a bit of a problem with gas, if you walk and cough and follow the doctors advice, you will come to the "other side" in good health. Doddie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
