Post surgical care after MX

Recommended Posts

I am contemplating Dr Illan in MX but my sister, who is a nurse anesthestitist, states that if there is any complications, no Dr state side will want to touch me.

What did y'all do after you came back?

PS....my sister had a bariatric patient die on her table due to blowing out his stitches 4 years after surgery.

I spoke with my primary care doctor before surgery and he agreed to do my post op labs and followups

I am pretty sure no doctor in the US is going to let you die just because you had surgery in Mexico. As for my post-op care, I met with my PCP prior to surgery and she agreed to do my follow-up blood work and to see me regularly afterward. I saw her at 2, 4, 8, and 12 months post-op. Now I just see her for my normal physicals.

What if you moved to another city? Or another country? I find it strange that doctors would refuse care because they weren't the ones who did the operation.

FWIW, I'm going to see my gastroenterologist next week to make sure I can get the tests that I need post-op when I return from Mexico. (no GPs/PCPs in Japan - specialists only!)

I am not sure which procedure the guy had, but he grossly over ate at Disney while on vacation. I don't have all the details but I was told he basically busted the suture line

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
