Lost hardly anything in first month?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone hardly lost anything in the first month after surgery? I just hit 4 weeks post op today and I've only lost 5kg (11 lbs). My surgeon said in 4 weeks most people have lost between 8-12kg. I feel so broken as im not sure what I've done wrong. I've been following the plan almost perfectly, having enough Protein and Water but just am not moving anywhere. I've been stalled for the last week and a half already (and I know stalls are very common so I'm not too fussed at that), but I'm just concerned at the really small amount I've lost, considering this is meant to be the moment we lose the most the fastest. The surgeon said some people just lose really slowly but I have so much to lose, I did this to give it a kick start, not to lose as slow as I could without it..

Thats the problem with compairing yourself to others because the fact is, we all loose at different rates and if you are one of the slower losers, then it can be really disappointing. Keep to the plan, dont weigh yourself too often and remember that slow and steady is just as good as drpping the weigh quickly ( I personally think the slow and steady way is better !)

Whats your water/protein/carb daily intake?

Do you log everything on an app like myfitnesspal?

I know its difficult and hope you get some good advice here. Re-think your plan as you said 'almost perfectly'. There may be things which you are doing which need to stop. Keep in touch with your team and keep in touch here and let us know how you are getting on. Best Wishes!

Comparison is a recipe for misery and disaster. The first month post op is about HEALING and taking care of yourself. If you are sticking to your surgeon's plan, you are doing NOTHING wrong. Everbody and every BODY is different. You had major surgery. You have drastically altered your nutritional intake. Give your body a minute to adapt and adjust to what's going on. There is a reason 95% of people go through a stall between weeks two and four.

I really encourage you to put the scale away and focus on just following your plan. If you follow your plan, you WILL lose weight. How fast you lose it is irrelevant.

I was a "slow" loser by most standards. But that didn't stop me from reaching my goal, where I've been maintaining for almost 16 month. I promise you that I have never once looked back and thought to myself "if only I'd reached goal two months sooner". In the grand scheme of things, your sleeve is forever and you will have YEARS to enjoy your happy, healthy life at goal. If it takes you a month or two longer to get there than someone else, who cares?!?!

Look at your weight loss percentage. My Dr said the 1st month goal was 10% of your weight. She goes by that because people will lose different amounts due to us not beginning at the same number.

Girl-your body went through a traumatic experience! Cut it some slack....it's totally normal to have a slow month, the first month. My doc and nut told me that the first month should focus only on healing and getting Back to normal and not to even expect any weight loss. Guess what? Some people don't lose in the first month! Rest assured, if you are following your plan, you WILL lose. I too had these concerns and a wise man told me "when you reach your goal, will it matter than it took you one month longer?"

The answer to that is no. Keep doing what your doing and be patient. Let your body heal, get as much Protein, Water and activity as you possible can and PREPARE TO BE SKINNY

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
