I really needed to read this. I'm only 3 days post op (had surgery on Monday 1/16) and I've regretted the surgery every day. Even seeing the weight loss is not even exciting. I hate not being able to drink as much Water as I want. I'm not even in much pain anymore but the esophageal spasms and gas are just regular annoyances that are so ongoing that they've made this almost intolerable.

Getting my Gatorade and Protein shakes in have been a serious struggle too. I think I'm doing just enough to stave off dehydration but I'm one of those people that when they don't feel 100% it seems like it's the end of the world. I guess I'm just too impatient to get to the point where I feel normal again.

Like I said in my post it took me about 2 weeks to stop totally regretting the surgery and wishing I hadn't done it, but it took about a month before I was actually glad I'd done it. You will get there, the beginning is rough.

I'm so sorry you are going through this but can so relate. I too had the feeling of remorse. Those first couple of weeks are the absolute worse but I promise you - it gets better. You know, I think I was a lot more of a food addict than I thought and I think that the reason I was so emotional about it was because I was mourning the loss of food in my life. I know it sounds corny, but there is something there. Food was my best friend, my companion, my soul mate. LOL However, you slowly start realizing that it also consumed your life.

I'm at week 4 and I feel like the surgery was an eternity ago. Hang in there and just follow the instructions, it gets better! :)

xoxo

Ask your doctor about hydration therapy. I'm 6 days post op. My doctor has me going to a hematology/oncology office 3x a week for the first week and once a week for a month to prevent dehydration. He has all his wls patients go. They give one bag of Vitamins and a bag of fluids via IV. It's takes about 2 hours. Its a big help!

I am feeling a little better today... had my first post op appointment today and my doctor said I am doing well and that I could advance on to full liquids. My mother in law made me this delicious sweet potato and leek Soup (creamy, no chunks and creamed Soups are on my approved list) and it was so delicious and the first thing I've been able to eat without feeling like I'm going to get sick! Definitely hit the spot and I actually feel satisfied. So that made me feel much better!

Hi There! I had a few of those meltdowns as well!!

Here is what they told me: Don't be so hard on yourself. Just keep at it and it gets better. You will not be uncomfortable, in pain and vomiting for the rest of your life. Right now your body is recovering and it's not an easy process.

You should ask for anti-nausea pills, the ones that dissolve under the tongue. That will help greatly.

This WILL get better but it's also OK to be feeling scared and angry and regret. These are things we need to feel and process. And they will go away for 99.998% of us. I spent 2 weeks crying non-stop. It was week 4-6.Man were they rough. I was miserable, I had been really sick for the year before that and I was ready to be feeling better, I felt horrible for myself that I felt so miserable and I'd given up the one thing that always made me feel better: food.

But here is what happens next. You begin to walk a little faster. You look at your hands and realize you can see more of your bones. You can suddenly wrap your arms around yourself. You can get on a bus and walk down the isle without your hips knocking into every person. You get to the point where you think: I just want to RUN, to use my limbs and it feels so GOOD!

Life is about to change for you in so many good ways but first we have to go through this gauntlet. You can do it!! You are the hero to your own story, you just can't feel it quite yet. Hang in there friend, it's OK to feel this horrible right now but please know it gets better.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
