Eating out 21 days post op? What should I order

Recommended Posts

I am currently 10 days post op and my mother called tonight and informed me that they are having my grandmother a birthday "gathering" at Texas Roadhouse which at that time I will be 21 days post op! I thought maybe this was something I could sit out on but my grandmother is more like a mother to me and honestly I do NOT want to miss it so I'm curious as to what would be a good thing to order from there?

You could also order some soft fish like salmon. Mash it up really well with a fork. I would have mashed salmon on the pureed stage. Plus you get in your Protein that way, which is #1.

Are they aware of your surgery? If so I would recommend bringing a small bowl that you can measure your food into. Make sure you stay with the portion size you're supposed to be eating, and immediately request a to go box for the rest. If they don't know about the surgery it gets a little more difficult.

Go online and see if you can get a menu and pre-plan. I ate out this week for the first time at three weeks post op and I had a cup of Soup. Next week I go to a business conference with food provided during the day and client dinners every night (my boss, coworkers and clients do not know I had this surgery) so it will be a challenge. It is also a small town we are staying in so no chain restaurants, so I am going on yelp looking to find menus and restaurants I can suggest where I know what I can order, it will be interesting

I would stay with soft, meaning fish. Not fried. And remember, you'll still be able to only get very little in. Don't be tempted by any appetizers your family might order.

I went there a few weeks after my surgery and had the mashed potatoes with country gravy. It was delicious! Be careful though because they leave some skin in the potatoes and also a few small chunks. Just go around the skin with your fork and chew the potatoes really well! Good luck and have fun :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
