Pins and needles in thigh?

Recommended Posts

Ok this is really wierd, but yesterday I developed pins and needles in my thigh. The day before that I had some soreness in my knee pit (if that's a word). It almost feels like my thigh has fallen asleep. But I can walk around just fine. It's been like this for 24 hours. It's only my left thigh as well. Has anyone else experienced this? In all of my life I've never had my thigh fall asleep, feet yes, even momentarily legs, but never a thigh and never for over 24 hours.

Any advice?

Leena

Hi Leena,

Not weird and you're not alone! When I started to experience this, I was told that it's generally due to an irritated nerve in my neck or back. I've found that when I sleep on my back it will REALLY flare up and hurt at times. If I shift my hips to one side or the other, it helps me.

Not sure where you are on the road to recovery, but a chiropractor may be able to help you with a simple adjustment. Works for me.

Hope that helps a little and good luck!

Tony

I haven't had it chronically, but I know the feeling you are talking about. Sometimes, right after I exercise, I will feel it for about a half an hour!

I too am having the pins and needles/numbness in my outer thigh area on only the right thigh. I had an extremely low potassium level post op and my daughter who is a nurse said this may be the cause, or it could be where they had you strapped on the table during surgery. I had my surgery on Wednesday the 19th......Good luck!!1 Walking does help....:)

Wow, I have the same feeling in my outer right thigh as well. I thought it was just me because I never heard anyone talk about that before. I was worried that my circulation was bad and I would need angioplasty or someother serious heart operation! (My own histrionics :) ) My doc also asked about back pain which I don't have. I never considered potassium and I am taking a Water pill and since no OJ or bananas until recently, that could be it. I have an appointment with a nueologist to check for nerve damage next week. I'll be glad to have this resolved either way. If anyone gets any relief post back what happened.

Thanks, at least I know I'm not alone. I see my surgeon in 5 weeks so I'll ask him about it. I see my primary Doc just after that for bloodwork. I did add a Multivitamin recently so I'll see if that does anything for me. It does seem to be worse in the morning though. And I have been waking up with a sore neck. I'm still sleeping in a recliner as my bed just isn't as comfortable (I'm a stomach sleeper and still too sore to sleep on my stomach).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
