is anyone having these isues

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric Bypass Surgery on 11/6/16 and have lost 52 pounds. I am having some issues and was wondering if anyone else has experienced any of the following issues:

1) when I speak my voice is strained - sounds hoarse all the time since surgery. saw an ENT said everything is fine

2) nose is always running

3) lately when I have a bowel movement I have to throw up at the same time. Comes out both ends. And get the chills really bad.

I am only having a Protein shake for Breakfast

lunch consists of 1 thin sliced turkey breast - low solium with 1 thin sliced lowfat swiss cheese

afternoon snack - 1 slice of low-fat sharp cheese and 5 cashews or almonds

dinner: 1 oz of kidney, lima Beans, - can not eat shrimp, lobster, chicken, lean goundbeef

at night 1 sugar free icepop

doesn't look like you are eating nearly enough. I would talk to your doctor, immediately. that doesn't sound normal. are you getting all your Water in?

I had RNY on October 17 and I am not exhibiting any of those side effects. I would definitely go see your Primary Care Physician. Also, it doesn't appear that you are eating enough. Are you making your Protein goal? You should be getting at least 60 gms of Protein a day. I would definitely add in another Protein shake if you are unable to eat dense Proteins.

Hey! Sorry this is happening. It can be rough at the beginning.

I had problem 3 for about the first 3 or 4 months. It was awful, so I feel you.

The things that helped me were a daily dose of Miralax, a couple of Lactaid with my Protein drink, and time. It was almost like my body had to learn to process the new plumbing.

The Miralax made things move easier, and I like many rny people had problems with digesting dairy after the surgery. There are plenty of other laxatives that can help but I liked the Miralax because it didn't add bulk. Straining when having a BM made it so much worse!

Good luck and I hope these things pass quickly!

You should be drinking about 64 oz of liquids or more, that's a given, I drink herbal tea to get my liquids in. I would talk to your surgeon and ask, maybe you should be eating a bit more food, but that's just my opinion

As far as the pain, that happens to me as well, and feeling like throwing up, sorry :(

Are those of you with Voice issues taking any Acid Reflux medicine like Prevacid? My surgeon put me on prescription Prevacid once a day for 6 months since my surgery as a preventative measure. I didn't have issues before with reflux. My primary care physician said that you can have acid reflux and not have any burning symptoms but it can make your throat ache.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
