My sleeve surgery seems almost too easy. So far.

Recommended Posts

I just had my surgery this morning (outpatient.). Sleeve along with a hernia repair. Surgery was at 9 AM, was discharged at 11:30 AM. I haven't had ANY pain meds since leaving the hospital and am having absolutely no problems getting my Water and popsicles down. This ssems suspiciously easy. LOL. What's up with that?[/quote

Omg I have never heard of that before.. we have minimum of a 2 night stay.

I collapsed on day 2 ( reason they have no idea lol)

Never had pain meds after day 1. And never took any whilst at home. I was vacuuming and cleaning on day 3 lol... sleeping on my stomach and side day 4.

I was going to ask the same thing to others about this. I hear about others being on pain meds for days and weeks and using hot packs etc.

I know everyone is different but it's a big difference.

I had no probs with Water or Soups. No pain on eating or drinking and started to worry if it were too easy!!!!!...

2 weeks out at work driving a truck ( can be full on) and doing exactly what I was a day before surgery.

6 weeks out now and I've forgotten I had the surgery lol

I was self pay to buy went to Mexico. So far been a breeze and 5 weeks out today! Down 8 lbs pre-op liquid (that I probably didn't need to do since I'm lower BMI but guess 8 lbs is worth it) and then 17 lbs from 12/16 surgery date. Haven't felt any restriction pain yet and on soft foods for about another week or so.

Hello, What is the leak test, how do they do it? I'm self pay too but it is a bundle package. Two days In hospital and I guess you go home on the second. My Dr said shots, no pain pump. My friend had hers in June, 4 days hospital and pain pump. Seems every doctor, hospital and patient are different. I just want pain meds if it hurts. Also, I'm afraid of the intubation because when I went for the endoscopy someone told me they keep it in you when u wakeup to make sure you can breath on your own. Yikes, we'll I'm glad I know so I don't panic when I wake up. I had a Tummy Tuck and when I woke up it was out. That was when I lost a lot of weight on my own over 13 years ago. Wish I had done the sleeve first. Please reply with any answers!????????

That's fantastic! I hope my recovery continues to be fairly easy. I found lots of doctors that do outpatient sleeve surgery for self pay patients. But I'm not completely convinced its a good idea. I was fine but i read about so many others that weren't.

My leak test was done during surgery so I wasn't aware of it. The breathing tube was out before i woke up or i may have freaked a little myself. I didn't have any pain until the end of day 2 but it wasn't bad. I didnt need pain meds really which is good because pain meds make me pretty queasy.

I'm hoping and praying mine goes as easy too. Start pre-op diet 1/26.

I wish the same for you too!! I'm 55 yrs old and was afraid my age may make the recovery a little tougher, but it's now the next day and STILL feel absolutely fine. I was most worried about not be able to get down fluids postoperative, but again, no problems there either.

I'm certainly not complaining, but after ready a lot of post on this forum I am really shocked it's been this non-eventful

That is very encouraging to see. I am 54 and wondering if recovery would be harder because of age. Hoping to have my surgery in June. I get summers off because I am an educator.

i am now on the 5th day post op and still doing great. A little sore, but not bad. That's great that you can get this done when you don't have to worry about a return to work right away. I think physically I will be fine to return to work, but the constant effort to get fluids in and such will be a big distraction. I normally get so busy I skip lunches, etc, which I can't do now.

I live in Phoenix, AZ, but there are lots and lots of outpatient programs all over the country. If you want to go that route you won't have any trouble finding one. I was actually going to go to Dallas initially because they have a good outpatient program, but then found out the same place (called Evolve) had a program now in Phoenix. Of course for those that have insurance or can afford it, I would recommend staying in the hospital at least overnight, but for those of us that have no other options, this was affordable and so far, so good

Just had my surgery yesterday the 18th. Was doing good until this morning and the incisions hurt badly. Not having the gas pains but I believe it's from using my essential oils on my feet before the surgery. I know it's sounds crazy but they work.

Now I'm home and the worst part is getting up. Incisions are sore sore sore. Any idea how long that lasts?

I am 3 days post-surgery. I have not suffered with gas pains, our pain from my incisions. I've just been sore, but it is manageable. I did stay in the hospital overnight, and had the leak test the following morning. Once I was cleared from the leak test, I was given the okay for Clear liquids, but did not have much of an appetite. When the NUT came by to check on me, she said that was perfectly normal.

I feel recovery has been smooth so far, just trying to get in all of my liquids. I have hunger pains, but I'm not hungry for anything in particular. I just hope things to go smoothly!

Wow had no idea anyone did outpatient Sleeve. Thought one night was the norm/min. I stayed one night and just had the pain Med in my IV. Other then that I took one pain Med first night just because I was afraid I'd wake up in pain and that was all. Had no issues with Water, popsicles and broth and now one month out I've tolerated all foods in stages allowed. I also thought to date that it's been to easy and kept thinking maybe the Dr. Only took out 50% of my stomach LOL. Guess so far it's a good thing.

I was plenty worried about doing this outpatient, but I'm self pay so it was kind of necessary to keep costs down. My surgeon said they administer a long lasting pain killer of some sort internally that lasts about 3 days to keep you comfortable during the days you would normally experience the most pain. So far so good! I'm glad to see someone else experienced an easy recovery! I was starting to think they just made a few incisions and then skipped the rest of the surgery!

What pain killer lasts for 3 days? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Methadone?

All this encouraging info makes me so much less scared. Thank you! I am scheduled for my sleeve tomorrow morning at 6:30 and I am praying for a recovery like you all have had. I have lost 16lbs just since the first of the year and hope to lose 100 over the course of this year post op.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
