Head hunger vs real hunger

Recommended Posts

How do you know the difference between head hunger and real? If my stomach is growling is it always real? Is there a way to find out without eating food? I'm still preop.

I had horrible head hunger post vsg early on. It was from the point of the 2 week pre op until i could eat almost normal food post op. It's not that bad now 3

months out.

I feel like head hunger for me was this intense desire for food. ANY FOOD. Whatever food i saw i wanted to eat. And i wanted a lot of it. Even post op i just knew i could kill a Chipotle burrito bowl cause i wanted one so bad. But i knew i was just being extra and needed to get my crap together. I think head hunger is any time you feel like eating without there being a need. Whenever i want to eat something but im not physically hungry or need to or just ate and the item im craving just happens to be really indulgent, i consider that head hunger. But that's just me. Some might feel differently. Hope i helped tho

I have this problem. Like we should have IHOP for dinner because pancakes sound good but I wasn't hungry. I had to stop and ask myself am I thinking and wanting this food out of habit or because I am hungry. 100% of the time when I wanted stuff like that it was because of habit versus when I was like I should have Protein because I haven't had any in so many hours. You will figure it out, you just have to stop and ask yourself some questions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
