What was your first overall feeling?

Recommended Posts

Hello, my last weigh-in appointment is tomorrow so still awaiting a surgery date.

I'm wondering what was your first overall emotion the morning of your surgery and after you woke up? Besides the pain did you feel more peaceful, happy, etc ? Every time I think of it I get a very light and wholesome feeling b/c it's something I've been waiting for for years and I'm so excited for it. I'm excited to finally feel healthy and in control. I'm doing this extremely early in my life (I'm 19) but I'm so ready for what it'd bring.

I had some anxiety the morning of surgery.. I was wondering if I was doing the right thing. I believe this is normal to feel like this. I have several years on you though. I am sixty. This was my birthday present to myself. My surgery was at 8:00 a.m. I was told it would take one and one half hours to two hours. I also had hiatal hernia repair during the rny gastric bypass. My surgery took three hours. When I awoke I was in intense pain, my stomach, chest, and shoulder. I was extremely nauseous. Pain level an eight. The anesthesiologist said I was given fentanyl and dilaudid. I am allergic to morphine. Still sensitive to that stuff. Chest pain so intense they did a stat ekg and troponin level to check for a heart attack. After some gas relief in my shoulder and soften and reglan I started feeling a bit better. That was my initial response. Surgery was the tenth. I went home the thirteenth late afternoon. It is the nausea the most that bothers me. I know it will get better. Good luck to you. Paula

I honestly woke up and asked if the surgeon put staples or tape on my incisions!! Lol... I woke up very delirious and out of it. I honestly can't remember all of it because I was still under anesthesia. I didn't have any gas pain, I had X Gas strips and a heating pad and I'm sure that helped a lot! Good luck to you

I woke up and I was totally wasted, feeling no pain. I was relieved it was over, but mostly I was just high. My husband was waiting in my room, but I sent him to work because I was too far gone to be decent company or appreciate his efforts.

I was in a great mood the day of surgery. After I woke up from the surgery I was fine. The pain was there but it wasn't anything that I couldn't take. I never used pain meds either in the hospital or when I got home. As a matter of fact I returned the script to my surgeon at my two week appointment.

This was the first "real" surgery that I ever had. I just tried to keep positive and I knew that I was doing the right thing by having the surgery.

I was a little nervous the morning of surgery I don't remember waking up in the Recovery room and don't remember the trip to my room. I was pretty out of it the first evening after surgery. I knew I had nausea issues with anethesia and narcotics due to previous surgeries so I was given a dramamine patch to wear prior to surgery so I had no issues with nausea at all. The most intense pain I felt was when I had to get in and out of the hospital bed - the largest incision felt like it was tearing inside when I moved my right leg. I took full advantage of the pain pump for the days I was in the hospital and the pain meds afterwards due to that tearing feeling when getting up and down. Eventually I only took them when going to bed because I move a lot when I sleep and the pain would wake me up.

I had my surgery in Morris Mexico. It was the best choice I ever made I would do it all over again in a minute. I am five weeks out tomorrow and have lost 25 pounds so far. I am a low BMI'er but have struggled with my weight getting upwards of 214 pounds. I was 185 when I had the surgery and now I am about 160. I didn't have hardly any pain at all until the night of surgery I had some intense spasming of my stomach that felt like a gallbladder attack that I had years ago. I. New it was not my gallbladder as I had had it removed. Walking after surgery really help and gas ex will be your friend. I took them immediately after surgery and is often as needed and it was OK with my nurses and Dr. if I did that. I had a hard time even getting in some ice chips the first day after surgery but I survived. I think I'm on the uphill swing now as far as recovery goes. I had my surgery on a Thursday and was back to work on Monday. You will do great just ignore what other people have to say if they're saying you can do it on your own without the surgery because the surgery is a great tool. You will do fine just remember that it's your journey and nobody else. Surround yourself with positive people and you will do great. Can't wait to hear how you're doing after the surgery

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
