I scheduled my nutrition and psychiatric evaluation today. I am going through a center that can do both. The nutrition evaluation is 1.5 hours and the psych evaluation is 4 hours. Are those times close to what others have experienced? 4 hours seems long, but the receptionist said it might not take that long.

I have not scheduled my psych eval yet but I was told its going to be 4-5hrs, and my dietitian are going to be 45-60min. I had my first dietitian and physical appointments and they were about that amount.

I'm in Louisiana, I did my psych examine yesterday, and it only took about 45minutes.

I'm in Louisiana, and the clinic had a counselor, that took an 1-1.5 hr. Didn't pass and she referred to a licensed one for 2-3 hr eval. I decided then and there, forget La. I'm going to Mexico. Post sleeve today, 7 days :)

Thanks all for the feedback. I just put in a message with my bariatric surgery coordinator asking her opinion on the appointments and durations. They do offer these appointments through the surgeon's office, but are not covered by insurance. So if they vary greatly I will probably just pay out of pocket with the people through the surgeons office to make sure I get what is needed.

My insurance did not pay for the psych $150 and the NUT $180. Out of pocket.

Just heard back from my bariatric coordinator. If I go with their nutritionist and psychologist (paying out of pocket) the nutrition appt is 30 minutes and the psych is 1 hour. I think I'd rather do that since they will be sure to get the info needed for the surgeon and insurance. Weird how the appointment durations vary so greatly!

My psych eval was two 1-hour sessions 2 weeks apart. I also had to take 6 hours of lifestyle change classes ( which I chose to take in one Saturday class).

Had my psych evaluation done today. Took about 15 minutes by phone, and 20 minutes filling out a survey Ike questionnaire online before. Nutrition class is this Saturday and is about an hour.

I wish I could do the psych eval online and by phone. I did end up canceling my original appts, and am going to go through my surgeon's office nutritionist and psychologist paying out of pocket. It will be $350 total.

Mine was the exact same thing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
