I am 9 weeks post op.

But, when I was 4 weeks post op, yes, I did have a hard time getting 2 ounces of food in me. I just wasn't very hungry at all. I remember that I was only getting in about 450 calories a day.

The most important things though, were that I was getting in all of my 64 oz liquids, plus some. And, that I was getting in plenty of Protein, mainly through Protein shakes and unflavored Protein powder added to food and drinks.

At 4 weeks it was definitely still tough to get in 2 oz. of food, especially depending on what the food was. I had no problem with cottage cheese or greek yogurt at that point, but something like tuna salad was still hard to handle.

Yes, especially with denser Proteins. Just keep aiming for your Protein goals and you will get there eventually. I'm two months out and still can't always get 2 oz in. My behavior modification specialist said to also try deep breathing before eating to try and relax your stomach before eating. (I have two young kids and mealtime can be hectic, if my nerves are frazzled at mealtime, I can barely get anything in).

meat and fish yes, other foods such as cottage cheese, Soup, Protein puddings and yoghurts, I could eat more of. You can keep on top of your Protein goals by sticking with the shakes until your surgery is a few more weeks out. Even now at 17 months I still have a couple of shakes a day, most days, especially if I am busy with work

Congratulations on the surgery !!

I have no issues getting in 2oz I usually eat almost 4oz in a sitting and I am 4 weeks out. I can have 3oz of chicken salad and 1oz of green Beans for lunch or dinner. What the heck? I have been eating around 800 cals a day, and I feel hungry quite often. I go for my follow up this Thursday. I have lots of questions. I feel way off track than many of the people on here.

800 calories a day is great at 4 weeks. I was able to start getting that high once I was on solid foods. I pushed hard to get up to around 1100 calories a day when I started intense workouts and spent most of my weight loss phase at about 1400-1500 a day. Sounds like you are doing well!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
