3 hour appointment coming up

Recommended Posts

So I have my 3 hour appointment with the surgeon, dietitian and the coordinator .. I have to travel about 1hr 1/2 to about 2 hours to go to my appointments .. so I have been staying with family .. and we are a family that social eats .. laugh have a blast.. and my last appointment was last week so i have 1week to lose something and my family also loves to sabotage me .. I do understand I don't have to eat it but is it worth the mental guilt and fighting that comes with it .

And everyone I talk to especially family is why are you doing it .. your healthy and you hold your weight great and even the lady at the orientation looked at me and check me out and said how much do you weigh .. I told her she was like ok your BMI and the looks at my butt and was like oh that's where your weight is..

I'm worried that I'm going to gain and they will think I'm not ready for all this when I have been waiting all my life ..

I hate to break it to you but you are going to have to learn to deal with the family drama if you want to be successful in the long run. People do the surgery and gain it back if they don't stick to good eating habits. Part of that are strategies to deal with temptations.

Eg.

when my husband Snacks in front of me, I leave the room, find something else to do.

Going to a party I know will only have high carb snacks? I brink a shake or snacks of my own.

When at a family dinner and dessert is being served, I get up and clear plates, start doing dishes. While eating with family, I avoid or eat around the high carb foods. Mine do not make a big deal, but if they did I'd ask them to be respectful of my choices as I am of theirs.

Your family cannot sabotage you, only you can.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
