What should I pack for the hospital?

Recommended Posts

I could never get the "right answer" after watching a bunch of YT videos. One thing I did notice is that they have you hooked up to an IV still when they have you start walking so here is what I packed:

Deodorant

Toothbrush

Toothpaste

Cleansing wipes (in case I can't shower there)

Brush

Medicines I filled

A change of clothes

Undies

Sports bra

No slip socks

Gas x strips

Anything else I should bring?

I took a toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush and deodorant. I also took a robe. When I got up and walked they clamped off the IV and disconnected it. I didn't walk around with the pole. I only stayed 2 nights. They provide soap, washclothes and towels for washing off and non slip socks. Wore home same sweats and shirt I came with. No bra. I found it rubbed my upper incision. Simplistic procedure I've ever had.

I leave for surgery on 2/17. I've heard bringing a heat pad & extension cord to ensure you can charge your phone/iPad from the bed are also helpful.

I second the chapstick and biotene [emoji16][emoji106] Everyone is different. I never touched my iPad or phone and I couldn't change into my pjs because I was hooked up to the IV machine until the morning I was released [emoji107]????

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
