Can you book a surgery for gallbladder removal....

Recommended Posts

....and then add on the VSG? I am a self pay and was thinking, since my pre surgical workup shows a large (2.5cm) gallstone, maybe I could go in for gallbladder removal....have insurance pay for that...and I pay the surgeon's fee for the VSG. Has anyone tried that?

Good for you.

I know they have a way of coding every single aspect of planned events. Good that the ball bounced in your favor.

Good luck moving forward.

Wow! Interesting! Can you tell us how much the vsg portion will cost? Also, since you won't be using insurance for the vsg, do you still have to follow the insurance requirements (6 month supervised diets, etc) or are you considered self pay?

Thanks,

They are booking it as gallbladder surgery and billing to insurance. I still owe my deductible.

Then, I am paying the Surgeon's fee of $6450 for the VSG. This is self pay and no insurance requirements.

My deductible is still significant, but it is saving me $

Ok...now they are singing a new tune. They said they will bill my insurance for the gallbladder, but I still have to pay the full amount for the VSG.

I don't think that is legal because then the hospital stay and anesthesia is being paid for twice

Gallbladder surgery is usually not an overnight stay, which is why they said you still have to pay for the hospital stay. Insurance may cover anesthesia, though.

The office and staff tag teamed me yesterday. They are working with the hospital to get an estimate. I might reconsider and go to MX

I was self pay. Had single port sleeve surgery in Mexico for $6K and they took out my gallbladder at the same time for an additional $700. 2 nights in hospital. No complications. I'm 6 weeks out and have had a smooth recovery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
