gryffen 176 Posted February 5, 2017 We only use endoscopy to see hernias etc as surgeons need to know size etc. I asked for Barium instead but they said no as its not a good grade marker for surgeons. Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????

Kiwi_N_Rio 36 Posted April 28, 2017 I had to have one pre op, which showed I have a hiatal hernia. Post op had to do another to make sure there were no leaks. Though it wasn't barium post op, it was a different worse tasting liquid. If you have a leak, they wouldn't want barium inside your abdominal cavity which is why they give the other liquid post op. My surgeon asked me how awful it tasted. He usually doesn't require the post op swallow test but it is routine in the bariatric program I went through. He tests your sleeve in Water for leaks before closing up so he doesn't find the post op test is really needed. I think in the near future he will not require it post op.Sent from my VS995 using BariatricPal mobile app
MarinaGirl 609 Posted April 28, 2017 The stuff I drank for my leak test wasn't bad at all. I was expecting something nasty based on what others have shared online, but what they gave me at Hospital Angeles in TJ was fine. It was sort of like watered down apple juice. Jen-2+1 131 Posted April 28, 2017 I had the upper gi before surgery. I was lucky my surgeon checks for leaks while you are in surgery, so I didn't need the leak test on the day after surgery.
jjsasha 18 Posted April 28, 2017 I had one. Some surgeons require them and some don't.
