n.ancion 2 Posted January 16, 2017 Hello all, I am having lap band surgery on January 31st. A bit nervous as I've never had surgery before. What should I expect post-op?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Treadmillwalker 486 Posted January 16, 2017 (edited) I had lap band surgery in October. Initially post surgery I had a lot of shoulder pain from the anesthesia. Walking helped. I also needed to take a stool softener and laxative because I wasn't getting any Fiber from the Protein. Some people start on Benifiber as it dissolves in liquids. Your weight loss will be slower (I'm losing 10 pounds per month). I track my food on My Fitness Pal as it also tells me the nutrition breakdown. For me the band is a reminder. Chew, chew, chew. You are having WLS not fat removal. Be patient and follow the guidelines from your doctor. It isn't a race, but a lifestyle change. Your relationship with food needs to change to be successful. flicka01 1 Posted January 17, 2017 I'm having the lapband done on the 31st as well! Started the liquid diet today and am feeling nervous for the next few weeks, feeling very hungry and have realised its hard for me to be around food ( feeding my kids) and not eat it !!! n.ancion 2 Posted January 17, 2017 I totally understand the food issue. I'm a big time snacker and it's no fun that my hubby and daughter get to have yummy dinners that usually end up making, sigh. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

AmyR 38 Posted January 18, 2017 I had my surgery last March. Mine went very smoothly and I have lost 75 pounds since then. Post-op wasn't too bad. The first day, I mostlly slept off the anesthesia. The second day I just took it easy and only moved around when I had to. The worst of it for me was shoulder pain from the gas. Do not keep it in!! It gets better with time, but the shoulder pain will linger for a while. I had my procedure on Thursday and was back to work on Monday. Just wore elastic waist paints for a few days until I felt more comfortable. Good Luck! I hope all goes well for you!
Treadmillwalker 486 Posted January 18, 2017 (edited) I think it was about 6 weeks before I felt normal again--over the surgery, adjusted to my need to chew food well, not as tired, etc. Edited January 18, 2017 by Treadmillwalker
