Does waiting make you nervous?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm just beginning my journey with the gastric sleeve. I had my first consultation with the surgeon on December 16th 2016 followed by my dietician, fitness eval, and psych eval a week later. Now I'm waiting on my upper endoscopy Thursday. My insurance keeps changing their requirements so I'm nervous to see how long my wait will be before approval. The waiting makes me incredibly anxious!! Also, while I've done most of my research and have my mind set on VSG, the longer I wait the more I keep debating that decision and wondering should I get the bypass. How did you decide?

First surgeon consult: 260

Yes the waiting is making me crazy !!!!! I had my upper GI test late December. This week I have my psych evaluation on Friday. Then have to wait until February 2nd to see to dietitian. Then we should be able to submit to insurance....And wait for approval!!!!!

When I made up my mind that I wanted to have the gastric sleeve surgery, that was it for me. My insurance required the six months of diet visits, so I decided that I was ready to embrace change, so I jumped on the low-carb train and never looked back. I lost 99 pounds during that six months, and walked into the surgery as prepared as I could be because I had used that waiting time to change my relationship with food.

My surgery was September 28, and I have lost almost 60 more pounds since. Using that early time wisely has been a huge part of my success pre- and post-op.

Good luck!

Awesome job! Ive always been on the haevier side but over the last 8 years, I've gained and lost and gained and lost and had 3 kids. I have had my mind set on VSG since the middle of last year. My husband went to the seminar with me and told me to go for it. I feel like everytime I tell someone I'm wanting the sleeve they ask me why and give me these looks like I'm choosing the wrong thing. So it makes me second guess. But I'm going to stick to my guns.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
