Not feeling full

Recommended Posts

It's been twelve days since I've had my surgery. I will be able to start on my puréed diet. But I'm concerned ...when I eat I don't get a full feeling... is something wrong? Has anybody else experienced this?

I am almost 4 weeks postop. I felt the same way but within the past few days, I definitely started feeling full. I think it is from healing and the transition to some solid foods. Hang in there...

Yeah, I have that problem. I have to measure stuff, which is hard if you are out. Twice, I've made myself sick. Hoping to learn soon.

I measured everything at first and felt the same way. Honestly like I was a failure and it wasn't going to work. I went to introducing solids and bam just like that I could not even eat weighed out portions. I think that liquids are like the sliders and move right through. Makes the first few weeks disappointing, but when you think about it. Sliding through is a good thing at that point because your tummy is still healing.

I am 7 weeks out and didn't feel full until recently. The puréed foods did not make me feel full ever. Now on regular food I can really feel my restriction after eating a small amount.

I'm on day 12 and just ate 4ozs of fat free cottage cheese with salsa. I ate slowly until I started to feel pressure which is STOP. I have felt this getting full feeling since I started the shakes and stopped immediately as I do not want to hurt my new pouch!

I have stayed fuller longer on soft foods as well but the shakes didn't make me feel the "full" sensation unless I drank a little more. I guess I "tested the waters" and pushed it a little, but I went SLOWLY and listened intently to my body. You have to be careful but you need to know your limits as well.

I know you're healing and probably starting to get hungry since it looks like we had our surgeries on Jan. 3rd! Just go really slow and get to know your pouch! Take care of yourself always

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
