A few times since I've been home, while sleeping I start choking on Fluid. At first I thought maybe it was nausea, now I'm wondering if it's Bile? First time I was laying flat but since then been at angles or sitting but it's only been while sleeping.

Anyone have any ideas. I'm only drinking clear fluids.

My experience may not be the same but I have the same waking up choking on Fluid that burns terribly. I have been taking an antacid once daily for a week or so and it hasn't happened since. I will follow this post. Its definitely a nasty way to wake up! Also I never had acid coming up before my surgery. If anyone knows if there is a connection maybe to our new small pouch?

Also I too only drink clear noncarbonated or sugered fluids, mainly Water. And my program is bland, so I'm not sure where the burning acid coming from. I asked my surgeon and he said to take antacids but I kind of would like to know why it happens as I sleep with a cpap machine and it makes the acid come up through my nose.

I wear a Bipap and a full face that's what woke me up to because all of a sudden I had Fluid in my mask. I ordered some Calcium chews, I haven't started any of those yet I was waiting for my 1 week appt. Wednesday to ask but maybe I'll call up there. Luckily I don't have the burning.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
