SKrae430 2 Posted January 14, 2017 Hi everyone! I just had my sleeve done on 1/10/17. So far, the recovery has gone well. I am having a hard time getting all of the recommended Water in, as well as eating all the food and Protein in one day. The Water makes me feel so full! My question is..... I know Protein is very important, especially in the beginning, but I am having a really hard time tolerating it. I don't like the taste of any flavor ive tried and it makes me gag everytime I drink it. Are there any alternatives to the shakes? like maybe a chewable protein Vitamin or something? please help me out!
Rhonda Wilson 0 Posted January 14, 2017 I was the same way. I went to GNC and bought genpro. It is tasteless. I spent major money before I found the genpro.< /p> Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Numbergurl37 201 Posted January 14, 2017 You can order Bariatric Choice liquid Protein..its a liquid gel you mix with Water. It is 15 grams i Protein i think. It kind of reminds me of kool aid or jolly ranchers. I cant handle shakes besides boost and this Liquid Protein. Good luck Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
Nana5 8 Posted January 14, 2017 Premier Protein shakes are good. Also my Dr told me to not drink 30 minutes before and wait at least 30 minutes before drinking after. Also nutritionist told me more important to get Water in than Protein the first couple of weeks to prevent dehydration. White Sale 339 Posted January 14, 2017 I've had good luck with a brand called Syntrax. They make an unflavored version which I put into just about everything. Supposedly, it's "medical grade" and designed with bariatric patients in mind. You're only a few days post-op, so don't be too hard on yourself about not meeting Protein and Water goals right now. Just do what feels comfortable to you. Just a couple of weeks ago, I felt exactly as you do now. Your intake will improve a little every day!
Rhonda Wilson 0 Posted January 14, 2017 Where do you all find all these Protein shakes and stuff? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Nana5 8 Posted January 14, 2017 You can get the Premier shakes at Walmart, costco and possibly Sam's Club. Cheaper at Cosco or Sams Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
bariatricmomof2 18 Posted January 15, 2017 I couldn't drink any Protein. I'm 3 weeks po and since I was so dehydrated the 1st week my Dr told me not to worry about Protein at all. Everyone and every Dr is different! It would be good to try to get protein in if you can. I would throw everything up except for Water and sugar free popsicles. For 2 weeks that's all I ate no freaking lie. I don't suggest that though. LOL! When you hit the pureed stage it gets a little bit easier though! ShelterDog64 2,364 Posted January 15, 2017 At 4 days post-op, really focus on getting your Fluid volume in vs Protein grams. You'll be okay for a while with less Protein as long as you're getting close to your Water goal. Going forward, I second getting some unflavored Protein powder. There are many brands, I'm a GENEPRO fan but there are other brands that others have had good luck with. Find one, because once you get to pureed/soft foods, that powdered protein will be the key to your success. I put it in cottage cheese, refried Beans, yogurt, pudding...anything soft and moist. I'm over 6 months post-op and I still put a scoop in my coffee every morning. Good luck!
Lala62 21 Posted January 15, 2017 Try Lift Protein Drinks by Atkins. They will help you meet your Fluid and Protein goals, plus they are good! The berry is the best to me. The lemon and orange are good but they are a little more viscous and don't quench my thirst as well. You can find them on Amazon.< /p>

Wonder WomanNJ 119 Posted January 16, 2017 I'm almost 4 weeks out since surgery and I still have a hard time getting my Water in. I was told to use Crystal light for the Water to help it go down easier and that seems to be working well for me.

I was told to use Crystal light for the Water to help it go down easier and that seems to be working well for me. I used to love crystal light before surgery, now I can't really stand it! Too sweet! Maybe that's a good thing! I found a pre-made Protein shake that I can stomach, doesn't exactly meet the daily requirement but it's better than nothing. Still trying to get all the water in but very difficult! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
littlemomma0831 10 Posted January 18, 2017 I second Atkins Lift. They're delicious. I couldn't stomach Premier Protein or GENEPRO (it's not completely flavorless, you can still taste something being added). ---------- Surgery date- 11/8/16 HW- 249 SW- 235 CW-
