Not Eating After A Certain Time...

Recommended Posts

Has anyone made a rule to not eat after a certain time.. like 7PM? And if so, does it help or what is its purpose...?

If I'm going to eat solid food for supper, I try not to eat too late because it sometimes causes me to have acid reflux now that I have good restriction,

I don't have a rule...I was watching Dr. Ian on Tyra recently and his advice is don't eat w/in 1 1/2 hours of going to bed. They even tested a girl over a period of time and she didn't gain any weight changing her eating to 1 1/2 hours before bed.

I can't eat after 8PM even if I wanted to. My time frame for food is usually between about 1PM - 7/8PM. There is little reason for anyone to eat that late in the day anyway if you have already had your three meals.

There are several reasons not to eat late in the evening before going to bed, and it's even more important for bandsters. Eating late means that whatever you eat is going to be metabolized as slowly as possible, since you're sleeping rather than up and moving around. Almost all conventional diets recognize this and advise against eating late.

And for bandsters it's even more important, because lying down while there is still food in the pouch can lead to irritation of the tissues. This can lead to being too tight in the morning, leading to the well-known phenomenon of not eating before mid-afternoon, getting hungry in the evening, eating late, and starting the whole vicious cycle over again.

So, in general, try not to eat solid food for three hours or so before retiring for the night.

Before I was banded, I tried to make it a rule not to eat after 7:30 because it helped me to keep my caloric intake down.. but since I've been banded I haven't worried so much about it. If I feel starving at 8, I will eat! Though I do try not to eat too close to bed time, because laying down after I eat doesn't always feel so pleasant.

Nothing in my face after 8pm. It was a big adjustment for me but now I couldn't eat that late if I wanted to. I did once and didn't slee at all. Crazy weird dreams and reflux. Ugh, not worth it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
