Anthem BC/BS Mass?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have this insurance? If so, I have completed the 6 month program as required, met with surgeon last week and had paperwork sent in after. Scheduled all pre-op tests for 30th with surgery scheduled for 2/9.

Still haven't received ins. approval so called to check. They say don't have anything and it takes 60-90 days anyway to approve once they get it! Seriously! Is this correct? Surgeons office told me it's within 15 days. Which is correct?

Anthem BCBS approved my sleeve surgery within 10 days of the surgeon's people contacting them. Surgeon's office did all the paperwork. I'm scheduled for Tuesday 1/24!

You'll get it, chill. Though I know its tough not to worry.

Lol I totally needed to read this this morning! I've been non-stop on these message boards while waiting for approval from anthem BCBS California. "You'll get it, chill" was exactly what I needed. I have prediabetes, high cholesterol, and BMI over 50 so there should be no reason for denial..Thanks for the words of wisdom ;)

Going through this process once doesn't count much toward "wisdom"! But thanks.

So I'm 4 weeks out beyond surgery. Lost 21 pounds since surgery, 40 pounds since process began. BP is down considerably. a1C is now 5.8, BMI 39.something (just below what insurance covers!). You'll get there!

BTW: So far surgery bills (surgeon plus hospital) total ~$55K before BCBS. After BCBS I'm in it for $1.1K. Still incidentals like anesthesia remaining, but nowhere near the $6K I was expecting!

And I also told my surgeon at post op meeting (2 weeks after surgery) that I think she cheated me. I have 5 little scars that I could have made with an x-acto knife, but other than that nothing. No pain at all (NONE!), no nausea, nothing to indicate I had surgery. OK, maybe a bit of "gurgling" now and then, and maybe I fill up after eating almost nothing, but really that's it. And she did give me pictures of my stomach before and after (showing staples and liver, pretty cool), but I have no evidence it was MY stomach, could have been anyone's!

Good luck to you, it'll happen soon.

PeterB.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
