My surgeon allows that for me as well as G2. Just make sure you're counting those carbs.

Yes. However, let me give you this cautionary tale.

I have trouble with low BP. (I know that seems weird for a big person, but I'm weird, lol) I have a history of passing out during weightloss from low bp. This happened to me as soon as I came home from the hospital. We talked to our program's bariatric nurse and she suggested a few things to help, one of which was to drink Powerade Zero in place of Water to raise my sodium. I did the things she suggested, and only passed out once more.

Fast forward to one day shy of my 3 week mark, and I had a visit to my surgeon. He was happy with all my progress and asked how I felt. I told him I felt great except that I had only had 1 bowel movement since surgery despite taking Miralax to help. He told me he told the nurse to correct her information. He said my Constipation was likely exacerbated by the Powerade replacing Water. He said that the artificial sweeteners in it acts as a diuretic, and that 12 oz of PZ can make you evacuate as much as 48 oz of water!

My point is, yes, it's fine but don't overdo it. You don't want to get constipated.

I switched back to water and continued miralax. I had to take one dose of MoM, but I am finally straightened out now. (4 weeks and 1 day since surgery)

Is it ok to drink Powerade zero after surgery? I would like to drink it as part of my 64 oz of Water.

Hi, I'm scheduled to be sleeved 1/27 and my bariatric center instructed me to drink Powerade zero 20 oz per day for 2-4 days and take Senekot post surgery. I hope this helps some...

I'm drinking Powerade Zero because not only is it on "the allowed liquids post op list" my surgeon gave me, but I think it saved me from becoming really dehydrated since I had trouble getting all of the fluids in constantly! When I had to drink every 15 minutes in Stage 2 I got behind a lot unless my whole world revolved around concentrating on those 1oz cups- filling three with Water and 2 with Protein shakes and drinking them 15mins. apart every hour! I'm so glad I'm past all that!! Starting tomorrow I'm going to just drink Water now that I'm on top of this for the most part and incorporating soft foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
