Water It Down?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I hadn't posted in a while but here goes. I was banded early last summer. I had a little fill during surgery. However I got my 2nd fill Late May this year, with little or no restriction. I went in on Aug. 30 and got a fill from 1.5cc to 2.25cc (experience was awful) but anyways I was miserable. I drank Water in the office fine, but when I got home I was very uncomfortable. So I went back in Sep.4th and got .25cc removed to 2.0cc. I still feel it maybe to tight. But I took out my research and starting reading over my notes. My question is for all who do have good restriction are you watering your pouch down really good before you eat? It seems that I can eat dinner if I drink enough water until I am miserable and then sat down to eat a small amount (for ex. last night I had 2oz. of samon, steamed mustard greens and a tablespoon of rice) and I was very satisfied. But at Breakfast I am only able to have a Protein Shake and at lunch I can hardly eat anything without being miserable. Once I watered my pouch down real good at lunch, I was able to eat six crackers with sardines. Is this how you all are getting by. By drinking several ounces of water (until you can't drink anymore)? Please any info would be most appreciated!

Sorry, I really can't answer your question and haven't experienced what you are experiencing. I've read that some people can eat better proportions if they drink warm Water before. Theory is that the warm or hot Fluid loosens things up.

It just sounds as though you are too tight, period. Some people are very sensitive to fills, sounds as though you may be one of them.

Make sure you are getting your nutrition, drink some Meal Replacements if you have to, and think about getting another slight defill.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

I Drink warm tea in am or I can only drink my breakfast. (band is tighter in am warm seems to loosen it) I also drink before lunch and dinner but not to the point miserable. Are you saying you are so tight that drinking the Water hurts at different parts of the day? If so I think you are too tight. My doc told me I should never feel miserable or in pain to make this tool work. Good luck

No, not that the Water hurts. But only when I drink a whole lot of water in the evening, then I am able to eat a little dinner. But I can't even eat lunch most days because it feels like it does in the morning, like it is really tight or something. So I was wondering if most people who have decent restriction are drinking a lot of water before each meal?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
