Band Size

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.....I never post but I have been lurking for at least 2 years. I am finally approved and will have surgery on Nov. 29th. When I had my consult with the surgeon, I believe he said my band will be a 1cc band. It sounds to me like that is really small.....am I wrong? Is that going to be big enough to do any good?:help:

There's a 10cm Inamed Band - Holds 4cc's

There's a VG Band - Holds 10cc'sf

These are the only two I know of...anyone else know of any other band?

I have the new AP band (Inamed) that came out earlier this summer. Specifically the APS (which is the small one). The other is the APL (large). I believe mine is 4cc as well but I'm not exactly sure.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, the band they decide to use ultimately is decided when they actually see your stomach in surgery and you get the one that fits you best.

Maybe I am mistaken. I really thought he said it was a 1cc band but I think I HAVE to have that wrong! I will see him one more time before my surgery so I will ask him again.............
He did say it was an Inamed band.

I don't think there's an 1cc band...

Next time you see your doctor ask him all detailed data on the type of band he's thinking for you and write it down. Afterwards you'll be able to research here at LBT and at Inamed's site for more info about it.

Do lots of research and read as much as possible. You'll find some previous posts here on the type of questions you should take with you to your doc's appointment. Your doctor is the best person to enlighten all those questions you'll be wanting to make.

Congrats for your brave step!

best of luck,

niki

Thanks everyone for your input. Lawanda, that sounds like something my surgeon would say to me! I will ask when I see the surgeon again!

I believe he said my band will be a 1cc band. It sounds to me like that is really small.

Lap-band (used generically but actually a registered trademark of Inamed/BioEnterics/Allergan/whatever) comes in three sizes:

9.75cm/4cc

10cm/4cc

11cm (aka VanGuard or VG)/10cc

The first number is the band's internal circumference, the second is it volume.

I've not looked into the AP (advanced platform) bands so I'm not sure of its specs, but I'd hope the smaller is still larger than 1cc. :waytogo:

APS (Advanced Platform Small) is 10cc/mL

APL (Advanced Platform Large) is 14cc/mL

Cannot imagine a 1cc band

Also: Lawanda, if my surgeon was serious when he made that comment to me, I'd be looking for another surgeon. Its your body, your band and your health, there is never too much reading.

There is also the Midband and the Swedish Band, but those aren't used in the US. Don't know where the OP is from, though.

When I asked my doc what kind and what size band I have he said I read too much!

OMG...tell me he was just kidding around!!!! At my last fill, my surgeon quizzed DH and I on the band and size we have (DH - VG 10cc, ME - Inamed 10cm/4cc). We recited our band types and he said "Very good, you need to be educated on the band type you have in case you're ever in an emergency situation."

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
