Did you have any complications in surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had my band surgery July 2 and there were no problems at all. When I was in recovery the nurses just hounded me to breathe deeper when I was coming out of the stupor (which of course just bothers you because you are sleeping peacefully and don't realize that you aren't taking deep breaths)..I have not been diagnosed with sleep apnea, but the recovery nurse said I must have had mild sleep apnea because of not taking deep breaths while I was coming out--they just put that little oxygen thing to my nostrils (not the full mask, just the things that look like nose plugs) and told me to breathe deeper. Other than it getting on my nerves because I wanted to be left alone in my drug induced haze, that was the extent of it!

Hope all goes well...let us know!! You'll be happy you did it.....

They kept the small band in. The swelling went down just as they were going to re-open me and put the larger band in. The only plus to having the smaller band is that I do have natural restriction. I did not need a fill for my 6 week appt. with my surgeon.

Christine, according to your ticker you got banded in August this year and you already lost 149 pounds????? Is that really correct? Did you lose alot of weight on your own before the surgery? Just curious.:)

The surgery for me was a breeze. MY only complication was that you have to pee before they let you leave the hospital. I couldn't pee. Finally about about three hours of nothing they put a foley catheter in. Now, foleys are normally put in under anesthetic and when someone said "Where's a foley?" I started to FREAK. But you know what....it wasn't THAT bad. While they were putting it in I was thinking, "But I HAVE MY BAND NOW!!! YEEEHHHAAAAA!"

Went in at 1:30 or so. Was home in my bed by 7pm that evening.

It took me a little while to come out of the anesthesia, but I did and after I shook that all off, think I did great!

I think my own fears of surgery were the worst of it all.

I do have some pain, but it is manageable with Ibuprofen.

I was banded last month and had no problems!

Overall it was a much easier experience than I'd expected. I was in the hospital for less than 24 hours. I did have some nausea right after surgery but anesthesia does that to ME. I never really had any pain and never needed pain meds once I got home. Minimal gas pains for a few days. It did take a few nights to be able to get comfortable at night in bed. (I'm a stomach sleeper, which I wasn't able to do until about night 5 or 6)

I’ve never felt any restriction or swelling but I’ve completely stuck to the pre & post-op diet and been steadily losing.

You'll do fine!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
